Size difference between Encore wood and rubber grips?
« on: July 08, 2004, 01:52:35 AM »
Guys, save me some running around to measure and tell me if you know that the black rubber grips for Encore are the same or different in size from the factory wood grips.

I find the wood just a bit too big and wondered if there is any size difference (as in the synthetics being smaller).

Also, is there anybody who is known to work the wood grips down to fit a shooters hand size.  With all my reading, I don't think anyone has ever mentioned anyone on here.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Don't know the answer to your question about the actual size, but I have smaller hands and I find that the new rubber Encore grips fit me just fine.

I do remember holding some Encores with the wood and they did feel to big for my hand, but don't remember if I saw where they was any size difference published.

Hope this is of some help.

Thanks Tom!  I knew someone would know if they"felt" different or smaller.  Controlling the .44 should be easier with a more gripable grip.  Besides, it won't get scarred up while hunting.

Mike

P.S.  I would still welcome others' thoughts.

there is a definate "different feel". i guess i'm not too picky, i like both. the rubber model feels smaller, but i havn't taken actual measurements. the composite forend that comes with the composite(rubber) grip is kinnda lacking though. actually, i think all the encore pistol forends are lacking. they could stand improvement.

Mike,
The first one I picked up and looked at had a wood grip on it and I thought that the trigger reach felt shorter than on my rubber gripped one. I have fairly long fingers and I still took the dremel with a sanding drum and smoothed some of the edges to make it fit better. (nice thing about the rubber) The problem with trying to shorten the reach is that there isn't much meat in the back sides of the grip and you'll grind through. I do like the rubber cushion when the 454 is on board though!

Rubber Grips?

I'm a Contender shooter, but my bud uses an Encore. I was under the impression that Pachmayr didn't make grips for the Encore. A quick look at their website shows only the Contender. Who makes rubber grips for the Encore? Would you post a pic? Thanks............Bug.

Bug,

For the Encore it is a factory TC option.  See the following link:

My research has yet to find anyone else who makes a rubber or rubber insert grip for the Encore.  Like others have said, Hogue or Packmeyer have yet to see the opportunity.

Thanks to all,

Mike

yep bug, when ya buy a stainless encore pistol action......it comes with factory composite grip/forearm. also, when you buy a "hunter package" which comes with blue action/barrel, scope base/rings, tc 2.5x7 pistol scope, and soft side case.......it comes with composite grip/forearm also.

Turns out the rubber grip (and forend) I picked up from Ed Kirkpatrick at 8 a.m. this morning is easier to get my hand around and seems also easier to hold on to during the shot.

No regrets!  Shot about 75 rounds after lunch and had a great session.

Thanks to all who commented and encouraged me to go to the rubber grip.
