I have seen where several manufacturers of bullets sell their blems.  Shooters Pro Shop sells Nosler Partitions for $12.95, Ballistic Tips for $7.97 - $9.95 as well as Accubonds etc...  I know you can on occaision get Ballistic tips for not much more but for Partitions it looked like a good deal.  I understand that Sierra and Hornady also sell blems but will have to look them up.  I have also seen Weatherby blem rifles in Gander Mountain but that does not fit this forum :D

Midsouth Shooter's Supply buys all Hornady blems. They may have a few left from the last buy but it is very limited now as most are gone. Will be many months before they will have them again.

Graybeard,

I looked at MidSouth.  Any idea why they call the bullets "OEM"?  At least that is what I think they called them.   They looked like Hornady bullets to me but why don't they call them by their manufactured name?

probably because the manufacturer doesn't want their name associated with "second class " components.

That is correct. The manufacturer, in this case Hornady does NOT want their name associated with them because of the cosmetic ONLY blemishes on them. I've bought and used them and they are fine. Only cosmetic blemishes that do not affect performance or accuracy.

I agree with all you guys that use "blems" for your shooting needs.

For several years, friends and I bought our "blems" from Sierra Bullets when they were located in Santa Fe Springs, California.  They were sold by caliber and by the POUND and amounted to about 1/3 the cost of factory boxed bullets.  Out of the many tens of thousands that we used up, I can only recall a dozen or so that were unusable because of deformed jackets or missing cores.  Everything else shot fine, including varmint hunting accuracy.

I have been buying seconds from Sierra, They are in Sedailia MO now. I have bought thousands of them. You do have to inspect them for things like a wrinkled jacket  or some thing similar. Usually they will have a few that are missing the crimp groove. Most of my shooting is with TC's so its not a problem. I quit buying them in the 22 calibers though because some times they will get some different weights of bullets in the wrong barrel and then you end up sorting them. Too much trouble for what you are saving.

Their number is 1-800-223-8799. Just ask for the outlet desk.  I'm not sure if they will sell and ship from there or not. You would have to ask. I usually go through Sadailia about twice a year so I can stock up on what I need then. They don't always have every bullet available. Its kind of a hit and miss proposition. Look on their web site, www.sierrabullets.com and decide what you are looking for before you call. They will tell you if they are available. Also their hours are some thing like 9:00-11:00 and again at 12:00 to 3:00. Hope this works for you.   KN

I once ordered a box of baulk bullets from Midway and got blems. They shot so bad that I have never ordered balk bullets again, let alone blems. If you just want blasting ammo ok, but if you want something with reasonable accuracy, don`t get blems.

The bulk ammo you order from Sierra are the seconds. I have been using them in my prairie dog guns for several years without any problems. Granted you will probably get a flier once in a while but not enough to consider it a problem.   KN

KN,
I was shooting them through a BR gun that would shoot good bullet to less than .200 with no wind all day. The bulk bullets I could not find on an 8 x 10 ft. backer. It did have alot of holes, but they were not on an 8 x 10 in. paper. That`s the only box I ever got.

I cannot speak for the other makers as I've not shot any of their blems. But Hornady apparently only sells or perhaps Midsouth only buys those that are cosmetic blems. No actual bullet defects ever noted in many thousands of them I've bought and used. I rate them 100% as far as performance is concerned. Accuracy has been fully equal to normal retail box bullets.

I got a note from the Hornady Webmaster today that is a little confusing.  I sent them an e-mail asking where I could get their blem bullets and if MidSouth OEM bullets were actually Hornadys.  Their reply was that "our reject or blemished bullets are only sold over the counter here at the factory".    :?  :?

:oh:  :yeah:

Me thinks I'd call that intentionally deceiving the public. Ya know anyone else who makes 7mm bullet weights of 139 and 154 grains? Me neither. Who else besides Speer makes JHPs for the .475/.480 rounds? Who else does BOTH???? No one. Look at the line up at Midsouth. Compare it to the Hornady bullet line up. Identical.

I'm agreeing with you GB.  I suppose MidSouth can send somebody over to Hornady and they could buy the blems "over the counter"  but then to sell them under a different name???????  I would think if Hornady was not in agreement it would be a legal issue.  Seems to be a few wrinkles in this road.

There's a good store in Searcy, AR about 40 miles from the Remington factory called Blue Star Cartridge and Brass. Google up their website. In times past they've had great deals on Remington "factory pulled" bullets, as in $50 per thousand for 150 and 170 gr 30-30 Corelokt and the same price for 180 303's. The bullets have small pull marks but shoot just fine. There is NO accuracy difference. Haven't bought any in a few years and availability always depended on what Remington had pulled down that month but it's worth a try.

I believef Midsouth Shooters Supply still has a large quantity of those for sale. Check them out at www.midsouthshooterssupply.com or call them at 1-800-272-3000.

Last time I looked they had the .20s still available.

Different loads and bullets are gonna do differently in your guns BUT I've really noticed no accuracy edge either the BT or V-MAX has over the other. Both will usually shoot as well as you and the rifle are capable of.

BTW I'm currently in negotiations with Midsouth Shooters Supply and hope to add them as an advertiser in the very near future. Nothing is finalized but it looks promising. I've been a customer for a long time and have nothing but good experiences with them so sure would like to add them.

I will NEVER EVER bet on two different bullets or bullet weights of the same brand shooting to the same place. Over the years I've done a LOT of load developement where I'd take anywhere from 2 to 5 different bullets and maybe as many powders and load them up in increments from minimum to maximum and head to the range.

I've seen too many times a tenth of a grain of powder change POI by inches and change of powder or bullet of same weight even more. It might be they'd hit to same POI and it might be they won't.

I have no where near the reloading and shooting experience as GB does. But of probably 100 bullets/powder/primer combinations I have found a few that shoot to same Point of Aim.  But you can't ever take it for granted that this will be the case.  The other day I found loads  for 308 where Sierra 150 Spitzers and 165 HPBT shoot to the same place.  Even with the same powder but at different grain weights.  I also have combo's for my 243 that will do the same.  But I found them by accident not plan :(
