Remington 7400 .280 Remington W/18" barrel. Need? Yes o
« on: July 20, 2004, 12:17:07 PM »
Ok I am a sucker for special run Remingtons. Bought both 7600's 35 Rem And 35 Whelen. Just saw two Remington 7400's in 280 Remington with 18" barrels on Gunsamerica.com. They were a special run last year.

Should I buy? Yes/No/Why? Thanks, MIKE.

Yes. A 280 carbine is a nice change of pace from the 30-06 carbine. this rifle kinda reminds me of the Winchester 100/284 carbine. I remember reading an article where the author called the Win 100 carbine the "ideal deer rifle." I like the oddball stuff so this rifle caught my attention also.

257, Do you know who the distributer was for this run? I might be able to get it for a better price thru my FFL. One was $550 and the other was almost $600 if I remember right on gunsamerica. I still want to get a 7600 in 25-06 with the laminated stock from Grices before they run out. MIKE.

I don't know  the distributor is on this one. I would have thought that it might have been Grice's, but I never saw it listed on their website. It also might have been Jerry's Sport Center. I wish I knew who it was also. I know they have been out for a few months. I saw one in March at a gun show. The only reason I didn't buy it was because I had recently returned to college. I believe the one I saw was going for around $550.00 also. Neat rifle though.

Mike103,
I just saw one of the 280 carbines. If it wasn't for a possible deal on a Win 88, I would have bought one. The rifle has good balance and the buttstock doesn't have the high comb like you find on most pumps and autos now. It was a really nice rifle. Drop me a line in my private message, the place that had them had really good prices on them.

7400 Carbine Accuracy
« Reply #6 on: July 24, 2004, 05:53:06 AM »
Gents,
I purchased a 7400 Carbine with a synthetic stock in .30-06 last fall. It is very accurate, consistently giving 1 MOA. Also, climate changes seem to have no influence on its point of impact. Perhaps the 18 1/2 inch barrel gives it rigidity, but this rifle is impressive in its performance insofar as accuracy and repeatability are concerned.
