I would like you guys opinion on the 416 rem, good bad or whatever.

416 Remington.... GOOD. No personal experience with it and I eternally regret not buying a second-hand one when I had the chance. Best of the 416s I reckon, but 458 projectiles are easier to come by and cheaper and the 375H&H is flexible enough to do what I require so I never went the 416 route. The Remington rifles in 416RM where a little muzzle heavy but swung very smoothly and the Rem stocks fit me oh so nicely too! As with any factory Big Bore budget on some work to get it 100% reliable if need be. Overall I really like this cartidge but I just dont need one!

The reason i was asking is, I picked one up at a gun show in Amarillo Texas this sat. Its a p14, 1917 action and who ever put it togather done one heck of a good job on it. The wood has a nice finish, The action is smooth. I had some thing he wanted and i liked the way it looked so we made a trade, I didn't really need the thing as i have a nice ruger #1 in 375H&H plus three 45-70s a 300 wby two 300 wins and on and on. You would think i was a gun nut i guess, Just can't find a spot to cut it off, Been this way all my life, Any way i have some loads made up and going out to further distroy my shoulder tomarrow, Well Con how is things down under. Its been a spell since we chatted on the puter, Would love to someday make a trip down your way, I read all the hunting stories i can find about your neck of the woods, I was into ham radio years back and used to talk to a lot of people down there,,,, Waltzing matilda, Ha Ha,,,

The .416 Remington is a good cartridge although somewhat limited when compared to other .416 cartridges.  I came close to buying one but went with the .416 Rigby instead due to it’s greater versatility.  You can load the Rigby down to Remington velocities or up to velocities just behind the mighty .416 Weatherby.  I am a big fan of the p14, 1917 Enfield action and I like the trade you made.  You can never have to many big bores.

As far as people thinking you are a "gun nut" all depends.  I keep telling my wife the definition of a true "gun nut" is someone that is on a first name basis with the gun safe delivery guy.  Just because he is on your Christmas Card list doesn’t count.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

Man that 416 Rig can kick, felt recoil is up there on the charts;) take down anything in North America using the right bullet, a great cart. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

Since my last post i loaded up some hand loads and went to the range.
I must say i was surprized at how nice this old girl shot. The recoil is not much more than my 375H&Hs or some of my 45-70s. in fact i think my
3oo weatherby kick as hard as the 416. the 300 is more of a sudden snap
that makes your hat fly off. Any way i got some pretty good groups out of it for the first loading. The 400 grainers did good, The 350 barnes x didn't
do so hot, but i can fix that with a few try loads i'm sure. Can't wait to try them out on a big hawg. Might even try it on some p-dogs...LMAO...Hope i won't be under gunned.....Have a good day and keep your powder dry.

I feel that with cz 550's and Rugers in .416 Rigby and Norma Brass in .416 Rigby and weatherby I feel it is the best option. I heard Remington are not making .416 Rem brass anymore.....there product and there not standing behind it...if thats true it's a disgusting disregard for there customers.

I ordered 100 rounds of brass and received them a couple days later. I made some calls and was told that Remington had not cut the 416 brass from their program. Don't know where you got your info. But i hope you are wrong, Would hate to think i had traded for a dead burro. I have had the rigbys in the past and had lots of good shooting with them but found this one at a gun show and went to slobbering and slinging snot and went totaly in heat for it. Well end of story i brought it home and went to shooting the thing and like the way it shoots. Thanks for the reply PC.

I think what PC was saying was that Remington no longer makes rifles for the .416 Remington cartridge.  Go to http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/cf_calibers.htm and check out remington's own web site and see.  Things must be pretty bad sales wise for Remington to cut one of their cartridges from their line up.  Remington's biggest Big Bore now is the .375 RUM.  Small groups and tight lines to all.  Lawdog

I stand corrected, I thought PC ment they meaning Remington was not making brass for the 416 rem. Beats me why they would make the 8mm
a clasic and discontinue the 416 rem. MONEY DUMMY oh yea now i know
the YANKEEEEE dollar.

I hope your right and that my infromation is wrong, I read it over on the Accurate Reloading forum......as you know take what you see on the internet with a grain of salt.

oso45-70....make sure you try the 410 gr woodleigh softs they are a great bullet I use them in my cz 550 .416.

Remington dropped the 416Rem from its rifle line up awhile back and I believe at one point stopped making loaded ammunition as well (so did Winchester with its 458WM!). This caused speculation about the possible impending release of a 416 UltraMag. Certainly in Australia loaded 416Rem ammo dried up about 3 years ago, and then reappeared at almost double the price. Remington (unfortunately) is well known for playing those kinds of shenanigans, look at the 35Whelen, 350RM, and 6.5RM for example. Brings out the rifle and ammunition, then a few years later drop the rifles, and sometimes the loaded ammo. It's stupid in my mind, as why would you touch a Rem 300SAUM, 300Ultra etc... As soon as sales drop Remington will more than likely drop it.

Remington is already cutting models they are offering for their RSAUM and their RUM lines.  They dropped the Win. .338 Mag. to try to boost sales for their .338 RUM, which didn't happen.  I can't help but wonder what big bore Remington will bring back to their line?  .375 H&H?  .458 Lott?  .416 Rigby?  Or try something new that most likely will go the way of the RSAUM, etc.?  Makes a person think.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

Remington management is certainly a mystery. The Rem CDL with its beautiful 26" barrel would be a natural as an 8mm Rem Mag but I doubt I'll ever see it, even though they're making 8mm barrels for their Classic. A 375H&H in that line up would also be nice as would a 6mmRem and 35Whelen.  A 22" barreled 350RM I'd also like to see but they continue to offer 350RM rifles that are hamstrung by features that most don't want like barrel ribs and shark fin front sights. They're habit of dropping good cartridge/rifle combinations surely must drive the knowledgable shooter away. Remingtons next big bore will probably be a 425WR on a Rem700 action, then they can sell high priced unique ammo to those that wont buy the thing from the first place. Lucky I got a Rem Safari Classic in 375H&H when I did.

I agree with you about the .425 WR.  That would be just like Remington or they could take their RUM case and open it up to .458 and call it something like the .460 RUM or some such bull.  Lawdog
