You still need a load with enough to take the Moose cleanly. I would not go below 100 gr. of powder. Also pick a bullet with good penetration abilities. You may also want to consider a past shooting pad to protect her shoulder. So you might be able to use a larger powder charge then.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

humm my thought would be a 100 of t7 with a 250 or 300 sst i wouldnt go lower than the 250 weight for the bullet, i would get a sims pad put on the gun. and make sure you get the gun zeroed for her and let her have  a 1- good practice shot each day if possible to miniumize the stress on shoulder

If you have time - get her shooting with the other shoulder.  She only has to make one or two good shots and switch shooting with a rest isn't as hard as it seems.
At least it is worth a thought :-)

Best of luck on that hunt, may she find a big one.

I would agree with most everthing that has been mentioned, and add a couple of thoughts.  Our Moose here in Idaho are not near as tough as Elk.  They tend to take the shock of the bullet and rather bolt away the walk away or just lie down.  An eighth grade girl, one of my students, drew a Moose tag last year, shot it with a .243 from about 100 yards, first shot in the chest cavity - he just shuttered a little walked a few steps and then layed down - she was able then to walk closer to him and get a head shot in.  I had loaded her up some Nosler partitions,  I would suggest the same thing for your 50.  It is the same laod I use on Elk - 45 cal 300 grain Nosler Partition Protected Point in a Nosler Sabot 100 grains of loose T7 2f.  1700+ per second and 1300+ lbs of energy at a 100.  If you can not use sabots my next choice would be a 295 grain Power Belt.  If you have to move to conicals there are other people on this forum that can tell you a whole lot more about them than I can.

Second thought - purchase a hydra-shock shoulder pad for your wife - the reduce the felt recoil a ton.

Good luck & good hunting
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Thanks a lot guys.your advice is taken.I had a simms recoil pad installed, put on a red dot scope, and got two types of bullets from nosler ,barnes, both hollowpoints, at 250 grs..I taught her how to shoot years ago,and believe me ,she makes a lot of guys stand up and take notice.Im proud of her and want her to have a good hunt.We are getting on in years and this may be the last time she would be able to hunt moose.Any more advise is welcome. If the guns will shoot 1" at 100 yds.iwill have her neck shoot it if possable,if not the boiler room.pan.
