Up & rolling w/new LBT mold.
« on: September 29, 2004, 04:30:57 PM »
I ordered a .430 LBT 240gr. 4 cavity mold a couple of months back and due to my heavy work schedule its been languishing in the garage.  Today I cast a couple hundred bullets and with any luck they'll soon be exiting the barrel of my 6" Anaconda at a high velocity.  Also today I ordered an S&W 4" 629 that'll be delighted to take a few of them I'm sure.  Boy, too long away from the reloading bench, rust has set in!

I made a bit of a disturbing discovery concerning the LBT mold.  I ordered a .430 and it drops bullets in the .432-.434 range.  Mmmmmmmmmmmm.  I think that when a guy pays a premium price for a bullet mold that supposed to drop .430 bullets with a #2 alloy that it should do just that.  I had my cylinder bores all evened out at .431 and the barrel is a .429, so I thought I had all my ducks in a row here and now this.  Am I being too picky?

did you wait till they were cool to measure them. Also id measure with a couple different tools to make sure your calipers arent off a tad. If your lube sizing anyway it should make a bit of differnce as thats not much to size down.

Having bought moulds from several different sources I can tell you very few are what they should be. They must be hard to cut exactly the way wanted.

I'd consider sizing them .431 and things should be fine.

How close is the weight to what you wanted?

If Veral has a tire shop I'd be glad to take all those annoying wheel weights off his hands.  Around here, however, the local junk guy seems to be bying them all.

If your throats are .430, you WANT your bullet to be .431-.432
