I have a 14" .223. It works fine with brass cases whether new or re-loaded. But if I use the cheap ammo with laquered steel cases, they get stuck. It seems like the laquer is melting and glueing them in. I havent had this problem with any other firearms with Wolf ammo. Any thoughts here? I was thinking of trading this barrel, but have put it on hold. I dont want to trade bad goods. I could use some help here as to why this is happening........Robert

You are correct about the laquer problem. I wrote about this awhile back on the old forums. I'd say there is nothing wrong with the T/C barrel, just the ammo. I bought a case of it at an estate sale cheap. I thought I had ruined a Ruger Ranch rifle in .223 and my AR also hated it. I have never experienced as many jam ups and stove pipes as I had with the Wolf Ammo. The hotter the gun the worse the problem became due to the lacquer getting cooked off the shell casing and onto the chamber wall. The only thing that it didn't gum up was an SKS but the tolerances on it are a lot less than the other guns. A good lacquer thinner or nail polish remover with an acetone base will do a good job of cleaning the chamber and breech face. Just swab the barrel with one of the above let it set for a minute or two to soften the build up on the chamber walls then remove with regular cleaning procedures, a serious case may require the use of some OOOO steel wool to remove the build up. Just be sure to show some caution with it around the wood furniture as it will strip the finish off the grips. Good luck.

I've shot about 1000 rounds of the 62 gr. FMJ in my Bushmaster with no problems. It is a little dirtier than US made ammo, but not bad enough to make me stop shooting it.

My SKS works just fine with it. That is my battle/survival rifle of choice if we ever have a war break out in this country, and I am well stocked with Wolf hollow point ammo, brass, primers, bullets, powder and dies to reload either .312 or .308 for it.
I would also want my Contender with .356 Winchester barrel loaded with 158 gr XTP .357 pistol bullets, and a 12 gauge.
I dont think there are many animals walking the face of the earth that this .356 wouldnt put down with the XTP's. They are probably as effective at 200 yds as a .357 Mag is point blank. Would make a great sniper bullet except for the loud report.

Robert, ol' buddy, how's it going? I have the same barrel, and it's super accurate with good commercial brass ammo, but I had a devil of a time shooting some Guatamalan surplus in it. The barrel locked up - couldn't open the action! Had to dismantle the gun to free it. Afterwards, with UMC and WInchester, no problem - good as ever. I just use the good stuff from now on. My Bushmaster also will see no Wolf! I've seen AR's have problems with it - I just won't take the chance. The SKS and AK - heck, they were designed for this steel-cased stuff - they just keep on shooting!
My rule is - high quality guns use high quality ammo, cheap guns use cheap ammo. It works for me. :lol:
