That is a project I'd be interested in the outcome of.  The rim of the biggest 50 may cause problems for the No.1.  They dies are available from RCBS, but are pricey.  the original load with the 750 grain bullet and 140 grains of black(or smokeless equivilent) will certainly let you know the rifle went off.  I would go with a tapered octogon barrel and to help with the balance of the rifle, I'd opt for a 30-32 incher.  Remember the barrel may seem large but that's a really big hole thru the middle..  check the weight..  Stock it like an old express rifle but a shade straighter.  Shotgun butt, steel(?) horn tip and cap??  I've been looking at one of these but can convince myself..  If I build one it would most likely be a 40-100.  Plenty of horsepower and the lighter bullets make it a bit easier on the shoulder.  This might be the platform that cries for a Keplinger single set trigger too!

The place to start for reloading equipment is Buffalo Arms.  They're on the web, too.

For dies, unless you're going to load the thing to the max and ned a full-length sizer, you would probably be able to use 50/70 dies.  Just consider them "partial sizing" dies.  They'd be a lot cheaper than FL 50/140 dies.

I use my 45/70 dies to realod my 45/100 with no problem - except for decapping.  You will need a separate way to decap the cases.

Try C&H Dies for these. They make many custom dies for various obsolete calibers, and their prices are better than RCBS, with equal or better quality. Buffalo Arms carries C&H.

Dear Dave,
I have done 5-7 of the 50 3 1/4" in the Ruger #1s and #3s. The big thing is milling the breechblock to clear the case. That and the safety needs a bit of filing to clear also. Other than that no big deal. All the ones I have made have been great shooters if you`re[the shooter] is up to the task. Need help let me know.
