Has anyone used the new Black Mag 3 Powder and what are your comments?  I was in Cabelas the other day and they talked it up as the best new powder. Thanks  Dave

I;ve not tried it yet. But Super91 ran it in his Whites and said no go. Now I'm not going to say it's bad stuff, but I'll let the others shoot it for awhile and see what happens. I under stand it's kind of pricy!

I think I will stick with triple7 in my inlines. No need to start messing with another new powder. Put if you try it, let us know how it works.

Not saying I would never try it but the only reason I would make an effort to switch from 777 is if the cost is significantly lower and performance the same.

That might really be good it might make T7 come down in price - cause right now there is no competition.

I got to agree with you there sabotloader. As much as I like to use triple7, it would be nice if it were priced a lot lower. I saw the triple7 pellets for the 45 cal and they were $16.95 for 50 pellets.   What a crock. They are almost the same for 45 cal pyrodex. At least they could give you 100 pellets like the 50 cal pellets for the same price. I shoot both a 45 and 50 cal Encore. I will be switching to granular triple7 after I use up all my pellets. I like the convenance of the pellets though, but the price is outrageous.

I know what you mean about the the convienence thing, but I think you will actually like the loose better.  If you are a target shooter or your accuracy is important you will achieve both better with loose.  To me the biggest issue is still the tremendous cost difference between pellets and loose powder.

If you weigh each of those pellets on a powder scale you will be surprised the variance between them.  And I know that +/- a few grains is not suppose to make a big difference, but...

I know several people that have poured the volume, measured the volume on a powder scale and then use the scale to drop all of their loads in their speed loaders. I actually use the brown plastic medicine bottles you get prescritions in, they are water proof and UV proof - make great powder containers.  I went to the local pharmacy and bought 50 of them.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

Great suggestion sabotloader. I will do the same. I already have a lot of triple7 in powder form, that I was using in my Renegade. I use both Triple7 and black powder in my Renegade. I use the BP when I shoot roundballs and I use the triple7 when I shoot sabots. I have a couple good loads with both.  :D

What do you guys pay for loose and pellets T7 in your neck of the woods and how much is the BM3? I take it it only comes loose? I've not heard of it before.

Wal-mart wants about $35 for 100 50g pellets and same for a pound of loose. I got pellets at BPS for about $27 I think. It was quite a bit less but I didn't price T7 loose. How much is the BM3?

I am paying $21.95 for 100 of the .50 cal triple7 pellets and $16.95 for 50 of the .45 cal triple7 pellets. I paid $22.95 for a pound of FFg triple7. Your Wal-Mart is a rip off.  I am getting my triple7 from the local gun shop.

I can not help with the pellet price, but T7 is $17.00 to $21 per pound.  It just went up - I was able to get it for $16 a pound.  I will go on sale once a year @ around $15.00.

I guess I don't flinch to much at the price because it is cheaper than smokeless and a lot easier to shoot than reloading for my centerfires.

The BM3 is only in loose now but next year it will be in pellets. I think it is around the high $20.00 for a pound. I just started using it in my Omega and the other day shot 30 round balls and 15 348 powerbelts without any patch or brush between shots without a problem. The powder burns very clean. two patches with water and it was clean. I was told if I was shooting 100gr of T7 to use aound 90gr of BM3. I was shooting 90 gr. of BM3 and it was plenty.

Well I do not have any fancy stuff I was shooting the powerbelts at 100 yards leaning on the pickup box was shooting 3" groups about 2" to 3" high with open sights. The round balls do not shoot that well over 50 yards. I shot them at 40 yards at 1 gal. water jugs. The kids get a kick out of the big splash. I just started shooting muzzys this year. I bought the Omega SS with laminated wood. I am trying to break it in by shooting about 100 or so rounds of several differant bullets before I try and get down to the final sighting in and load size. I will be trying the T7 and BM3 after it is broke in to see what I preffer.

Hunt, you need to shoot light loads and a tight patched ball combo to get round balls to shoot reasonable in a fast twist, shallow groove rifle. Too heavy a load or too loose a PRB will cause the ball to strip in the rifling instead of following it and in effect, you'll be shooting as a smooth bore.  They typically just don't do well, but for plinking can be accurate with light loads and fairly accurate at 75-100yds with hold over. I have heard of shooters using a polishing compond like flitz or JB compound on the patch as a lube to break in the barrel, but have never done it, just shot mine a lot to break em in.   hth,   Tim

I looked at their site and it looks pretty good, same idea as T7. I see Cabelas is listed as a dealer but it's not on the the Cabelas site. We have a Bass Pro in Nashville. Maybe I can ask them to carry it. I don't think it'll be any cheaper though from what you guys are saying that have seen it.
