Insurance companies! UGH!
« on: July 16, 2004, 08:23:42 AM »
I had an accident 18 months ago with pickup truck X. Minor - $800 after a slide into a guard  rail going 20 mph in 6" of snow in the mountains of Alaska.

Bought a new truck and the Horace Mann insurance company insured both trucks.

Sold old truck.

Policy canceled on new truck because of accident with old truck 18 months ago.

 :?:  :?:  :?:  :?:

Does annyone else have a little problem with insurance companies?  Like it is cheaper to not tell them you had an accident because it will cost you more than it would to fix it in the first place.

Please if there are any insurance agents out there, do not walk past my house today.  It might be hazardous to your health.

i did the math a few years ago and realized that it is a money losing proposition for me to have a deductable below 2500 because i have a good driving record and any claim will result in losing my "good driver" discount... if i were to lose my discount the increase in rates would offset the lower deductable... of course this wasn't any fun this past turkey season when a barn fell on my truck (no joke) and did 6000$ worth of body damage... fortunately it was considered an "act of god" which didn't cost me my good driver status

I've been dealing with farmers for my truck and have had absolutely no complaints... i never had to get an estimate, just took it to where they suggested and they did an excellent job... very customer friendly, imho

well let's see.  once upon a time my grandpa was well off because he worked his tail off building houses and working two other jobs.  he had insurance the whole time.   just as he is slowing down to enjoy his life that he worked so hard for,  grandma is diagnosed with cancer.   well it didnt take long for the insurance company to drop them;  grandpa proceeded to spend everything trying to save her.  it doesnt end happily ever after.   so,  what kind of an opinion do i have with them?  there is a special place in hell for them; right next to the politicians and lawyers, corrupt bosses and c.e.o.'s.     thats what i think.

In my State we have an Insurance Commissioner.  If you have one, file a complaint.  This has worked for me.
Don't believe everything you think.

I thought that I would add my insurance company story.

I had PEMCO Insurance for over 30 years.  They insured my house, my cars, and provided an umbrella liability policy as well.  The checks I sent them were not trivial.

I changed insurance companies to the brand that AAA (the Auto Club) pushes.   My oldest son was in college in Southern California.  He needed a vehicle.  He shopped around for one and decided on a Jeep Wrangler with a modest raise kit and large tires.  Prior to purchasing the vehicle we made him contact the PEMCO Insurance company to get a quote on the vehicle insurance costs.  He explained the vehicle and all of its features to the agent.

PEMCO responded with a reasonable adder for our policy.  My wife talked to the PEMCO agent to verify the information and find out timing of the coverage, etc.  We told our son to buy the car and we sent the check to PEMCO to cover the vehicle.

Within a month we got a letter back from PEMCO saying that they do not cover Jeeps due to roll-over hazards.  We called them back and explained that we had described the vehicle to an agent prior to purchasing, actually two agents and were told we could get coverage.  We went up the supervisory chain of command and were told that PEMCO does not insure JEEPs, period and that they are sorry but either get the Jeep on some other company's policy or they would cancel our insurance.  In our discussions with them it didn't matter that our purchase decision had relied upon infromation from their company.

I explained that I had been a good customer of theirs for over 30 years and purchased their full line of insurance products and did they really want me to go to another insurance company, because of a mistake on their part?  They said they don't insure JEEP's.

They will never get my business again.  With this one exception, I use to think they were a great company, little did I know.
