Custom barrells
« on: July 19, 2004, 11:59:49 AM »
I know that there is probably already post about this already but i was wanting to know what yall think about the custom barrel makers bulberry, eabco, and virginia valley. I have had a T/C encore for about a year and half now and love it. I would like to get a Custom barrel when funds allow but don't know wich company to order from.  THe prices are little different but when i spend the money the difference wont matter as much as quality and accuracy. :?

I`ve got 3 - Bullberry barrels and they are all shooters. My favorit is a .17 AH. I get 3600 fps. with a 19 grn. bullet and it shoots around .250 moa most of the time. The others are a .17-223  carbine barrel and a 15 in. .357 max. barrel. Even the 15 in. barrel will shoot under 1 moa. I`m happy with what I`v got.

I do belive that the custom barrels will be more accurate than the average factory barrel , I have worked 2 encroe factory barrels and they both shoot well under moa . If you are going to use it  for hunting then a factory barrel should be plenty good enough . If you spend alot of time at the range you will see a little difference and the custom may be better for you  .

SSK cured me of any desire to own more custom barrels. It was a very bad experience. Maybe the other guys are OK.

Have a couple of Bullberrys and a couple VVCG. SSK didn't want my money so I have no experience with them other than one phone call.
Plan on waiting for quite some time for a Bullberry ....one of mine took eight months. They easily will shoot within the standards of their guarrantee.
VVCG took one month for one barrel and the other took four months and they both shoot as well as the BB.
While both companies did excellent work I found VVCG a little easier to contact and work with.

I own VV, Bullberry, and SSK all and am very pleased with each and every one. I didn't pay full price for any of these as I purchased either thru sales or second hand. OTT (the maker of TC barrel hangers) is now making barrels that I read good things about. I have not personally shot one of these barrels and you must understand that they are fairly new to the market, but might be worth checking out.

Have done Contenders since 1969 and have a safe full of custom Contender barrels, most of them wildcats.   Bullberry, SSK and Brown makes all my barrels now days, and for good reasons based on long experience.   HTH

I had one SSK barrel and will never own another one. But I have two barrels made by O.T.T. (On Target Technology) and they are both great barrels. He is the only one will consider for my money. I have had no problems with dealing with him. When it comes time for another custom barrel he will be the one making it.

John would you tell me why you don't care for the SSK barrels. If you had a problem with them I would like to know what they are. If they have a fault i don't want to buy another, The one i have now in 6.5 JDJ is very accurate and fits up great. Just need to know what i would be getting into if i bought another one. Thanks,.............Joe.........
