State postal teams? What are they???
« on: July 08, 2004, 11:28:20 AM »
I thought I knew (thought they were the X highest shooters from the state of residence of the championship being shot) but them I have been looking at the LA match results and saw the postal team and can't make heads or tails of it...

What is a "postal" team if you please?

In silhouette, the state postal team is chosen at the state championship.  The scores from one of the matches is selected and turned into Gregg for the team score.

In PA they choose the teams from the 12 highest scores fired in the first match for each gun of the championship. The two lowest of those twelve are coach and assistant coach(I think).  Then the scores those twelve people fire in their second match are the scores that are actually counted as the score for record. Which is to bad because those scores are usually lower than the first set....funny how that works.  I don't no if this is the proper way but this is how it seems they have done it here for a long time.

Does anyone no if there are set rules for the postal matches?

Hornetx60 is correct.  The 10 highest shooters in the first round become the postal team and then their scores from the second round are all added together for the state team score.  Did this a couple of years ago for the state shoot here.  The PA way of selecting the coaches seem fair too although there is no requirement for that.  I think I chose the longest running match director and the longest running classified shooter if I remember correctly.  The observation that the second round scores are usually lower is good one too.  Around 30 targets difference, again, if I'm remembering correctly from when we did it.
