I just purchased a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Matte Black Plex - PA Handgun Scope from Bear Basin a month or so ago. At that time they had free shipping on orders over $250.00 if I remember correctly. The only extra charge was for handling. I'd have to go look at the invoice to be sure what I paid, but I think it was like $310.00 or thereabouts.

Just recently purchased a Burris 2x7 Ballistic posi-loc from Natchez for $290.33 + $8.56 for freight & Ins. and $3.90 for handling ($302.79).  I had the scope in three days!

This is the third scope I have bought from them and get great service.  I recommend them completely.

Midway is NEVER EVER the cheapest place to buy anything.

Check with my sponsors here. You'll seldom find anyone who beats both of them.

The Optic Zone and SWFA. One of them will almost always be lower than Bear Basin if not both of them.

On every other board I visit often, they have a link to all their sponsors.  I can't find any where on this board that lists all the sponsors.   Am I missing it?  Where is it?

Well if you are the venturesome sort then check out "Burris" listings on Ebay.. I have gotten at least 12 scopes there by persevering and all of them are in use.. A friend got a 2x7 which broke, but Burris will make it good. I have seen a lot of negative comments about Burris on these forums.. I can't afford to buy a bunch of variable Leupold scopes and have found the next best thing to be a Burris 2x7 or 3x9 with or without posilock or adj objective bell. I have yet to have one fail and I shoot some wrist twister rounds and have had them fall out of my Hunter holster and land spang on the scope while ducking under tree limbs.. It is a wonder I am still kicking... I like them.... cbagman

IMHO, the only difference between Leupold and Burris is that the Leupold is more expensive.  I have one Leupold and 4 Burris handgun scopes.  The Burris is built like a tank and holds up under the likes of my .44 mag, and .375 JDJ Contenders.  I also like the way you can quickly aquire the field of view with the Burris.  I have a hard time finding the field of view with the Leupold.  That is too much precious time when in a hunting situation.  I also believe that the Burris' optics are more clear then the Leupold

Don't get me wrong, the Leupold is a fine scope.  I just don't care for them in a handgun configuration!

I have one Burris 3X9X32 pistol scope and 4 Leupold pistol scopes and 1 Weaver and 2 Bushnell. All but the Bushnell have more blackout areas. I love my Leupold scopes, but the Bushnell I find it quicker to get my field of view. I find my Leupold to be the most clear though.

IMHO, the only difference between Leupold and Burris is that the Leupold is more expensive.

Leupold basically only makes 3 handgun scopes - a 2X , 4X and a 2X-8X where as Burris makes a far greater variety. Some other differences I have seen:

-Burris has click adjustments , Leupold uses friction adjustments.
-Burris has adjustable objective on some higher power models - not available on the Leupold 2X-8X. AO not really needed to hit a Cape Buffalo but nice when you are trying to get all shots to go in one hole at 100 meters.
-The eye relief on a Burris variable handgun scope changes dramatically from higher to lower powers , Leupold claims constant eye relief regardless of power on their variable 2X-8X.

With that said I own 5 Burris handgun scopes and 2 Leupold.

I thought I noticed this when I was comparing the Leupold 2x-8x vs the Burris 3x-9x the other day.  I didn't have much time to shop, but something didn't seem right on the Burris variable in comparision.  Is this the same with the Burris 2x-7x?  May have to keep saving up for the Leupold.  Bummer it doesn't come in Matte.

chris.....i wouldn't trade my 2x7 burris for 2 bushnell trophy 2x6's
:)  differeing opinions keep it interesting .....ehhhh?

the 2x7 burris has 21' wide field of view at 100 yards on 2x. compare that to the bushnell. but....yes, the burris shortens in eye relief as you turn up the power. i just use that to my advantage, and adjust power for varying shooting positions.
but.....another good point......the burris will cost you an extra $100 bill.....and sometimes thats not easy to come by. :(

Amen Chris, but not on the $1000.00 part, that'd leave me out. However those features would make a darn fine Handgun Scope.

There is one thing I would like to point out. I started using the 2x6x32mm Bushnell Trophy Handgun Scopes back in about 1990 - 1992. It seems to me these were not the same scopes as the ones made today. The first 2x6x32mm Bushnell Trophy's I had had good fields of view (at the time they were listed at 20' at 2x if I remember correctly), but the eye relief did indeed vary from low to high magnification. I am not sure if the change came from when they switched from being manufactured in Japan ot China or what the deal is. At any rate I always liked the earlier 2x6x32mm Bushnell Trophy's I had.

I never thought the change in eye relief was a big deal, especially since at the higher powers I could never hold them steady unless I was on a stable rest, and when using a stable rest the eye relief situation didn't seem to matter nearly as much. On the other hand the last few 2x6x32mm Bushnell Trophy's I had had such small fields of view it gave me the impression of looking through a tunnel. I don't get that with the Burris Handgun Scopes I have.

As far as the clairity of each, I have had no complaints with either (or the 2x & 4x Leupold's I have had as well). In addition I have also had a single 2.5x8x28mm Weaver Handgun Scope that I also thought was a good scope.

It is a good thing they make different makes and models, that way we can all be happy, but if they made the scope you outlined we'd probably all be happier (provided we could afford it).

The Leupold variable (pistol scope only) used to have a bad reputation for breaking under heavy recoil.  Never tried one for that reason.  I have many fixed power M8's and they are tough as nails.  Haven't heard much about the Leupold variable breaking in recent years though.  Walt  :-)

f your looking at the 2x-7x range, i really think you should look at the Bushnell Trophy 2x-6x-32mm scope. its quite a bit cheaper, and alot more scope IMHO. constant eye relief all through the power range, and excellent optics make it a very good deal. these can be had brand new for around $150! you have to look through one before you buy a Burris or Leupold...if you do i dont think you'll be buying either of those 2...

I looked at the Trophy 2x-6x at the same time as the Leupolds and Burris the other day.  I was going to ask for opinions on this one as well.  I have historically shyed away from the Bushnell stuff b/c for several reasons (read CHEAP), but I have read nothing but good about the Trophy 2x-6x for the price thus far.  As far as the FOV at 100yds,  my target application is to use it for accuracy testing / load development and when its not doing that it will be used on a rimfire barrel for squirrel hunting.

The one I handled the other day bore a price tag of $189,  If I can find one for ~$150 it may be a done deal....

I got hold of a refurbed 3 x 9X Burrius ler scope in a trdae. I really didn`t want that much powder on a handgun for hunitng, but figured that I could use it on 3X. I put it on a 15 in. Bullberry barrel chambered in .357 max. I set the scope on 9X to zero it at 85 yrds. I was not real happy with the groups, 4 to 5 in., but I figured it was good enough to take a deer at 100 yrds. I set the scope on 3X and checked my zero. My point of impact had moved over 6 in., and the group was under 1 in. I rezeroed it at 3X and hunted with it that fall. As soon as season was over I took it off and sold it. I got a 1  1/2 x 4X at the same time and was going to put it on a SRH in .454, but so far it`s never been mounted and I`ll probibly sell it befor it gets mounted. I put a Leupold the .357 max. So far I mounted 1 Burrius scope and it was junk. At present I own over 20 Leupolds, one bought in the 1960`s, and I`ve never had a problem with any of them, rifle or handgun.

Received my trophy 2-6 in the mail last weekend.  Certainly does have constant eye relief over the 2x-6x variation.  Also very easy to acquire a sight picture with even compared to my Leupold 4x.  Seems like alot of scope for $139.  Hope to give it a workout in the near future.
