Are the Leupold and Nikon scopes they sell at wally world a different quality than the same scopes from other places?

Nikon's models are, in order of quality and price, lowest to highest, Prostaff, Buckmaster, Monarch, and Gold.

With the Leupold, it's Rifleman, VXI, VXII, VXIII, LPS.

I don't think Walmart would sell the higher quality models such as the monarchs and VXIII, but I could be wrong. I just think that they would sell the lower quality models such as the Prostaff, Rifleman, and VXI.

So to answer your question, if there are scopes that say Nikon or Leupold, then they are in fact made by those companies, although Walmart may simply carry the less expensive models.

Thanks Zachary, now I have a couple of more questions. I believe you are right on the Leupold, I think it is a Rifleman and it is $199. I'm not sure what the Nikon was but it is $149. I was also wondering about the Bushnell Elite 3200. Whatever scope I get is going on my M77 .30-06, which one would you suggest? I have gone thru many scopes since I've had it and have not found one that would last. It has had Simmons, Tasco's, Bushnell's, BSA's, and a BEC on it and none of them hold up. I want a good scope that I can put on it and not have to worry about it anymore.

You can have Wal-Mart order any scope you want, they don't even charge shipping! Plus they will match ANY price! Although they can not order Zeiss

plus if you know any one who works at Wal-Mart you get an additional 10% discount

I'm kind of hesitant about buying much of anything from Wal-Mart. Haven't ever had a whole lot of luck with them and I have NEVER gotten anything from them that I had them order for some reason. The way it's looking I may opt for the 3200 Elite. It always seems to rain during deer season and I could use the extra benefit of that rainguard coating! I'm fixing to go to the optic zone site and see what kind of prices they have.

I would strongly recommend the Elite 3200 over the Rifleman and VXI and maybe even the VXII (but not the VXIII).

I have an Elite 3200 1.5x-4.5x-32mm mounted on my .375H&H Mag. :eek: Guess what? That scope has help up perfectly, even under that fierce recoil! And Rainguard? IT WORKS!!!

For the money ($200 range) you can't get a scope any better than the Elite 3200, and I'm pretty sure that the opticzone sells the 3x-9x-40mm for less!

Never received anything ordered from Wal-mart??? that sucks.A very bad management problem excists at your local store...I agree with not buying from there I hardly ever buy stuff there thats out of their cases, but have had good luck ordering stuff...I have a family member who works in lay away and I just get the part number and go see her in lay-away, pay her using her discount and have always received items in 2-3 days...I have heard good stuff about www.theopticzone.com and www.riflescopes.com but i am sure you have visited these 2 sites. Good Luck with All. Sometimes a good local hardware store will suprise you with prices if you visit regularly and talk shooting with the counter-clerk in the gun section (ace hardware,etc) most of thier mark-up is instore only prices.

You hit it right on the head about this Wal-Mart! This whole town is kind of like that, if it weren't for my wife, I wouldn't be living here :wink:

If an Elite will handle your .375mag it should take my .30-06 in stride.
I'm not sure why this rifle is so hard on scopes :? It kicks harder than any other '06 I've ever shot but not as bad as the .300 Weatherby or the .338 Win mag. Last year my brother bought one just like it and his doesn't kick as hard as mine does for some reason? A couple of my hunting/shooting buddies named it for me after I got it and we went and shot it a few times. They call it "The Rock" because they said that it will lay the "smackdown" on you if you're not holding on and paying close attention when you lite one off in it :wink:
