Stainless Contender Frames

I am looking to build a silhouette pistol and would like to use the Stainless Steel TC frame.
Anyone know where I can get one and do they get a premium?
I saw g2 frames for 235.00 on the web but I want to use the Pachmayr grips, so I think I need the old style frame. I cannot find them. are they rare?

I purchased one a while back through the TC classifieds in GB forums.  You could also check with Ed of Ed's Contenders.

I saw one on G'n'b'r'k'r' the other day. It went for $274 and it didn't even have a grip.

Yes, stainless. Another one just went for $560 with brl & scope.

How long ago? I didn't think they were on the DOJ list of acceptable guns in Kalifornia.

Just recently, it was a person to person transfer, the guy happened to live 2 hrs. away and for an extra $15 he drove out to do the transfer. How lucky is that! Ive heard of complete guns going for $1300. here because the gun has to already be registered here. I had been looking for one for a long time, but they just arnt available. Guess it was meant to be.  :grin:

It seems like the older frames are going up in value. The main reason is probably that you can do a trigger job on them very easily. This is very important to the silhouette shooters. Not so much so for hunters.

:grin: I sold three blue contender frames at the silhouette range recently. They went like hotcakes for $200 each. The only reason I sold them was the fact that I replaced them with stainless steel frames.

If you are using it mainly for silhouette the stainless isn't going to matter as weather isn't that much of an issue like it is in a hunting situation.  The G2's have not been out long enough to have much of a used market yet.  The Contender had about 500,000 frames built so they are out there if you keep your eyes open.  Prices vary widely and often depend on the two parties involved more than anything else.  Sometimes I see used stuff selling for prices higher than new and I always find that curious.

which is worth more is a hard question to answer.  i prefer the G2 and Encore design, i just like the grip angles better and the recock the hammer feature is very nice.  i'm a hunter, and of the three G2 frames i've had or played with i've not found one yet that needed a trigger job.

  I've never seen one that DIDN'T need a trigger job.

how light are your triggers after you've worked on them?  are you a target shooter or a hunter?  i dont like mine to light, cause i dont want them accidently going off when i've got a glove on in the winter months...  of my 2 G2 frames that i currently own, both are crisp and of the weight that i prefer straight out of the box.

Very light. Just a light touch and BANG! That's what's needed to shoot good silhouette scores. That's what the "Big Dogs" do. Otherwise you pull the gun off target before it goes off. Safety is not an issue with silhouette since you don't cock the gun 'til you're ready to fire and  it's pointed downrange. If you don't do a trigger job on yours your not in the running.

The best shooters in the world do just fine with 1 and 2 lb triggers, and they don't pull the gun off target with these weight triggers so why do some think they need triggers in the 2 ounce range?  Precisely because they think they do and no other reason.  If you can't hit the target with a 1 lb trigger you won't hit it with a 1 oz. trigger either.  Be safe  :wink:

I don't even mind a little pull weight, but I hate cruncy creep.  Some of my replica guns have fairly heavy triggers, but they break crisp.  I have to admit that a crisp, light trigger does make it so I have one less thing to have to think about, but one and a half pounds is about right for me.
