Special TC order for a 300/221 Rimmed---You want one??
« on: January 16, 2003, 12:12:07 PM »
This is copy of an email that has been sent around about a special order being put together at the TC Custom shop for a chambering in 300/221 Rimmed. If anyone has an interest, Contact TC as mentioned in the letter or email Lynn at the email address at the end of the letter. I think Lynn said there are already several orders in place and they only need 5 for the run.
************************************************************
All,

Sorry some of you may get two copies of this email. I got some replies off the list so probably duped emails to some of you. Pass this on to any TC or IHMSA nut if you think they would be interested.

I contacted Mike Wright at the TC Custom Shop today about us ordering the 300/221 Rimmed cartridge that I proposed last year. This is NO special group buy with a discount (I'm not that important!). Just go to the Custom Shop website http://www.foxridgeoutfitters.com/customshop/index.html for current barrel prices. Decide what you want then call the Custom Shop at 1-800-243-4570. ASK FOR RAE (a lady) she will know what is going on with our orders. You can order from her.

Here are the questions I asked about this chambering.

1. Will this be available for the Contender and the Encore?    YES, If we get the minimum 5 barrel orders, Mike will set up the etching for both the Contender and the Encore. The reamer can be used for either style frame style.

2. Any length barrel can be ordered in blue or stainless (listed on the website). Carbines are no problem!

3. The twist is the standard 1 in 10" which is what is currently offered in the regular 300 Whisper and it stabilizes heavy bullets OK.

4. All bull barrels are STRAIGHT bull barrels and do not have the slight taper that regular Contender bull barrels now have.

5. Orders will take about 8 - 10 weeks due to a large number of orders over the holidays.

6. Barrels will come with 2 dovetails unless you only want one and that will take an additional 4 - 6 weeks since those barrels will have to be made special.

*****NOTE***** Mike told me that all TC barrels will soon have 2 dovetails regardless of length. I guess they are standardizing things to speed up assembly so that will almost guarantee that the barrels with 2 dovetails will be legal in IHMSA Production. I think I read that has already been approved but don't want to bet on it.

7. The reamer will have the same throat (leade) as the standard 300 Whisper so long heavy bullets can be seated out without losing powder space.

8. All barrels will come drilled only for rear sights (or scope bases) so the front sight holes will be extra. Make sure you tell them about the front sight holes if you want them.

9. I asked if this cartridge will be listed in the online catalog or the new printed catalog so IHMSA will know this is available to the general public. Mike said the Custom Shop considers the cartridge as available to the public once the reamers are available. It then is up to the public to order one or a hundred barrels.

10. There is no special order code or anything like that. Just deal with RAE in the Custom Shop so she will know when we have the minimum orders to allow Mike to buy the reamer and set up the barrel engraving.

It didn't sound like any deposit was required and I will be placing my order tomorrow for a 10 3/4" stainless barrel and will let you all know if anything else needs to be mentioned.

For all of you who are interested and are able to order now, I suggest you place your orders as soon as possible so they will know they have the minimum order and will go ahead and order the dies right away. I hope the barrels will be available for the early part of our IHMSA season. I still think these barrels will be scarce in the future and may be more collectable if that is of interest to you. I plan to shoot mine!

I also asked about the progress with the new G2 frame. Mike said he expects them to be available to the public about April. He didn't say what the hold up was but that is his latest guess as of now.

I also asked about the possibility of a 6.5mm or 7mm Herrett. He said no one had ever tried to order either of them but if we can get this 300/221 Rimmed made, I would really like to try for a 7mm Herrett. At least we are getting more cartridges for our fun guns.

If you want more info, feel free to email me. shultza@watchtv.net

I really like this idea, you have probably already figured this out, so I'm not going looking, but what catridge would be best for making this case?

Geno, to be sure check with the email listed at the bottom of the original post. That is Lynn's email and he is the one pushing the 300/221-Rimmed chambering from TC. However I am pretty sure the original case is the 357 Maximum or 357 Super Mag case which you can buy in bulk from Remington.
