I feel that my gloss stainless revolvers - expose me when I`m hunting, but don`t have the same feeling about my satin stainless. With the blue ones - no problems. What do you think?

I was once deer hunting with a buddy on a hazy, overcast day and we both had satin finished stainless guns. He was standing against some dark foliage and that stainless gun really stood out. Since that time, I try to keep my gun down at my side or if I am sitting I'll put it under my arm, at least somewhat out of sight. I have used camo tape to tone things down a little. The best solution would be flat black spray paint but I haven't been able to bring myself to do that, although I have to a couple of .22 squirrel rifles. If you want to test this, lean the gun against a tree and back off about 50 yds and see what it looks like. I will surprise you. This all said, guys still get deer every year with shinny guns! Just use a little common sense. 44 Man

I have used camo tape on rifle barrels and used the camo spay for bows. I comes off easy with the spray carberator cleaner you can buy at any auto parts store. You could have it bead blasted to give it a satin finish

I don't think so. :roll:

I've hunted with stainless guns for years and have never noticed it to have a detrimental effect. I also have a few camoed guns but the only thing that is really impressed by them is my hunting buddies. The deer couldn't care less. :-D

I have hunted for years with nice pretty blue guns with gloss walnut stocks. I have set them down in the woods before and walked away and they shine pretty good in the right light. I hunt with a camo bow. Cannot say I see more wildlife with a camo weapon. I shoot turkeys every year with my pretty blue gun with the gloss walnut stock and not the new breed of turkey gun. Look around the woods someday and notice all the natural things in the woods that shine. How did all those folks kill all those animals for all those years when nice shiney guns were the standard, oh thats right, we did not have the gun makers marketing scheme of telling us how great a camo gun is.

Every really looked around in the woods on a bright sunny day at all the things that shine? I have and down here in the Bama woods there are things shining brightly all over the place. Limbs with lichen or moss on them, broken limbs, white rocks, light color leaves and grass and any number of other things.

I think movement more so than any other single factor is what gives hunters away. Glare without movement is just not as big a concern. But blued guns are just as shiny as SS ones ever could be. Folks have been using them successfully a long time so I'd not worry about it. Just don't wave them around.

Where we hunt there's not much cover, just sagebrush, draws and canyons. I've seen the glint from a nice blued rifle at over a mile away. It looked like someone had a mirror and was flashing it around but it was just a guy walking with the rifle over his shoulder and it would catch the light just right. Wouldn't have seen him otherwise. Would it have spooked game? Dont know but it got our attention.
It makes you wonder why when the wind blows a branch or bush around the animals don't seem to pay any attention, but if you blink or scratch your nose they pick you out and are long gone!
