I currently use Federal 3" mag 3/4 oz, 1450fps Barnes Expanders. I also have some Winchester 2 3/4" mag 260 grain 1900fps Partion Golds to try (have had them on the shelf for 2 years...). I'd also like to try the new Federal 5/8 oz (around 260 grain I assume) 1900 fps slug.
But the bigger slower Feds shoot so well I just keep using them. My new stand stepup on my place is only going to give me 60 yard or less shots, so I'd rather have the bigger 3/4 oz slug that's more than flat enough to 60 yards over the faster but smaller and lighter 1900fps slugs. Trajectory from 0 to 60 yards, where I'll be shooting is too close to see a difference between the two slugs and the 3/4 oz slug should make a bigger hole. The 1900fps smaller 5/8 oz slug actually carries more energy according to the ballistic info than the bigger slower moving 3/4 oz slug, but I've always been a fan of big holes in whitetail, especially when big bones like shoulders could be involved with the shot. Ineritia is your friend.
