you can search the web for several sites list the serial number prefixes that will tell you !   other than that a pre ban upper will have a threaded muzzle with flash hider and even possible a bayonet lug some pre ban sporters had the bayo lug removed

That was kinda it. If someone has ever changed the upper i guess you have to go by SN to be sure you were legal on upper. So SN is pretty much only way to tell on lower? Thanks again :D
