Question For You M-1 Guys
« on: August 30, 2004, 04:32:43 PM »
Hi All,
I've seen reference made to an M-1 "re-weld".  Can anyone tell me what a re-weld is?  Also how can one identify it?
As you can tell I'm not an avid military collector, but I am looking at an M-1 with some interest.  It is a late model and of no real collector value as best I can tell with my limited knowledge.  It is in very good condition and would probably make a good shooter.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
TnNuc

Some years ago they decided to destroy 1000's of MI Garands and they cut the recievers in half and sold them to people who welded them---some were fair but I would not trust one.

Wizard,
Thanks for the reply.  I did a quick field strip and checked the action.  Everything looked OK.  As a matter of fact I found very little wear, so I don't think this one has seen much use.
Best,
