Anyone know of a source for simple 1 1/4" diameter trunnion caps.... 1" wide 3/16" steel strap would do fine. Would like to keep this under $20.00 if possible. Thanks

For trunnion caps on my 1/2 scale-(1 1/2" trunnions) ,I used steel riser clamps for 1 1/2" pipe.They are used to support vertical piping as it goes through floor slabs. one clamp has 2 halves that bolt together to hold the pipe. I took mine and took a 2 lb hammer to them to make them look "hand-forged" then painted them.they look great and are dirt cheap at a plumbing supply house.they are about 1 1/2" x 10"+/_ , depending on size ,and easily cut to length with a hack saw.Hope this helps.Badger Bob.

hey evildog, i am guessing this is for your greystar 1/3 scale.
i used 1/8"X3/4 flat barstock for mine. i cut a 6" piece then used
2 blocks off wood, a 1" socket and a hammer. after i formed it i drilled
a 1/4 inch hole at each end. pretty easy as it only took about 30
minutes to do. :grin:

hi JJ..... yes, that is the barrel they will be used on. I love Badger Bob's idea.... will have to drop by the local plumbing supply store and see what I can fine. Thanks Bob, I really appreciate the info.

Was experimenting around out in the shop last night and came up with yet another possibility. Since my side pieces for the naval carriage are thicker than the trunnions are long, I cut the holes for them using a forstner drill bit..... makes a nice flat bottomed blind hole. Then made it a half diameter height hole by removing the top half on a table saw. Got to thinking that the previously removed top half could also be fashioned into trunnion caps. Put a 1" sanding drum in the drill press and adjusted everything until the drum was the height needed to open up that top half so that it would once again sit flush on the carriage side pieces. I will grant that oak trunnion caps are probably not as strong as steel straps but they sure do look pretty.
