Notes FOR DIPPING LARGE BODY GRIPPERS

For those that are looking for a container to hold their 330s,swipe your wifes Rubbermaid sweater box. These containers are just the right size for your large traps.
I pour my dip into the container, lay in the 330.I swish the dip a bit, then flip the trap over and do the other side.Shake the trap, and hang up.
You can also use a small paintbrush,if you dont care to flip the trap over. The brush will hold the dip well.
Double dipping(dipping a second time, after the first coat dries)gives added protection, but then each trigger and dog must have the excess dip, scraped from it.
For this reason,I only single dip my grippers.I dip them in the fall for the opener, and again in the spring before I start on my spring beaver.

I went and bought a 12 quart rubbermaid containe i beleive. I layed the 330s in and just flicked the dip up on to the trap with a paint brush and that worked real well.

The smaller black plastic cement-mixing tubs work quite well. They're stout enough to pour the dip in and out of, sized right for rigged 330's, small enough to not require too much dip to completely submerge a 330, and only $4.00 at Home Depot, Menards, etc. Been using one for several years now after my wife's clear plastic sweater box cracked ( because I left it outside in the sun all year ) and I lost a whole batch of 'seasoned' dip :-) Otherwise, a wheelbarrow works well if you can make the bolts in the bottom of the tray ' dip-tight' - just tougher to pour it back in the bucket. Regards,
Mike

i'm new to the dipping idea, and just got done with a batch, i think it went very well.  i was wondering if everyone saves their dip and uses it again and again, and also... how do you guys dip your coni stands, do you use the paint brush trick?

The same batch of dip,can be used for several years. When I am done dipping,I pour my dip into a large bucket with a tight fitting lid.I then take and mark the fluid level that is in the bucket, with a marker on the outside of the bucket.
The next time I go to dip,I add coleman fluid to the buckets content, till the level is back up to the outside line.Your level will usually be below the line because, some of the coleman will evaporate in storage.
I used on batch in this way,for 7 years.
When dipping stands,I will lay as much of them as fits in my continer.I then use a paintbrush to transfer the dip onto the stand.I then hold them upright over my container, and brush on dip ,to the parts that were outside of my container.
