Never shot them in my .44 mag., but took a deer with a .240 grn. .44 saboted into a .50 cal. muzzle loader. It put a 2 1/2 to 3 in. hole clear through the deer. The odd thing about was that there was no blood shot meat. It the only deer I ever seen shot that you did not loose any meat along the wound channel. I don`t know if that was a freek or if it is common with that bullet.

I'd go with a heavier bullet.  Penetration doesn't seem to be very good with the 44 unless the heavier bullets are used.  If I wanted to buy a premium bullet, I'd get the Nosler handgun partitions.

If I were using a jacketed bullet on deer, it would be the 270gr. Speer golddot. They're dead soft but have a bonded jacket to hold together and penitrate. I had already switched to cast/flatnosed bullets before the Speer GD came out and never saw the need to change afterwards.

The 200 gr. Barnes bullets will work good. Remember Barnes bullets retain 100% of there weight. I have spoke with Barnes and they recommend the lighter bullets due to weight retention. Also there are people taking deer with a 357 MAG with 158gr. bullets, so why not use a 200 gr. I personally like the 225 gr. Barnes XPB Pistol bullets for my 44MAG.

Check out Barnes for load data.  Their bullet are longer but weight is less than lead.  I have had good accuracy with mine.  They do expand very wide.  The only problem I have had with them is that they are expensive to work loads up with and only come in a box of 20 I think.  Another alternative is the Nosler partition in the handgun style.  Those peneratrated deeper in my wet newsprint tests.

Speer 270 GDFP in 44mag are very deadly, good for big game animals,
they come in nickel plating as well. I have good results using the Hornady XTP's 240gr. Aim small hit small RAMbo.

I will be using the 225 barnes x this year in my dan wesson 445 supermag.  I will be launching them at about 1775 fps.  I talked to the load developer for dan 'wesson and he told me  to try the barnes x 225 grainers as he and others used it and was devistating to say the least.  He sent me some pictures of there kills with the barnes and it was impressive.

good luck
