New gun today!!!
« on: August 07, 2004, 04:56:47 PM »
Well,I bit the bullet and broke down and bought me a new wheeler for whitetails this fall.Got a Ruger SBH .44 mag,blue,w/7 1/2 barrel. Now am looking at a way to put a scope(red dot) on it.I looked a "B-Square" and can get one that bolts in place of the rear sight and clamps around the barrel for $65.95.Looks like it would work to me.Anybody have an opinion or a better way?................Rick

I use a Leupold (?) base for one of my .41 BHs.  It uses the rear sight holes but requires the topstrap to be drilled & tapped.  Curious why if you wanted a scope on it, you didn't go with one of the Hunter models?
Anyways, you may want to try asking this question over on www.RugerForum.com  there's sure to be someone there that's used the set-up you mntioned.

My experience with B-square was not good.  Used one on My S&W Model 57.  Installing the mount damaged the blueing and frame of the gun.  IMO you would be better off having the top strap drilled and tapped.  I use Redfield 3-ring magnum mounts on my handguns now.  I have never had a problem with these mounts, where as the B-square moved when I was firing heavy handloads.  Just my two pennies worth.

I also wold have the top strap drilled for the Leupold mount. I did it to my BFR in 500MAG.  :D

Thanks for input guys...Blkhawk73,you ask why I didn't get hunter mod. if I wanted to scope it.Reason."I'm tight" I had a hard time letting go of the money for the SBH,much less give a 100 or so more for a hunter mod.I have a hard time juggling worth. In my eyes I can't give more for a revolver than my .30-06 or my .300 mag cost when I'd be lucky to drop anything over 100 yrds. with it and w/the rifles.....no problem.I have the same problem with the cost of a bow,and you be lucky at 45 or 50 yrds.Maybe I'm just looking through "rose color" glasses  .Anyway maybe as time goes on.....I'll get better or should I say looser.......Rick
