My GLOCK shoots the 180
« on: March 17, 2008, 02:48:18 AM »
I put a heavy spring in it And can shoot those 180gr bullets at 1115witch I thougth was pretty good. What do you think? Recoil isn't bad with that heavy spring and it doesn't Beat itself up either.  It is a GLOCK 22.

what load are you using, where did you get it, and how do you know your fps?

I'm guessing a max load of "Longshot" under the 180 grainer. That's pushing the pressure envelope a bit for the .40 S&W. Especially in a Glock! I hope you're using new brass in a supported chamber aftermarket barrel, along with that heavy recoil spring!

I got it from STEVES LOADS , I shot threw my conagraph I sorry THE most I got with the 180gr bullet was 1115 FPS, With my 165gr bullet  I got 1150, with the 155 I got 1225fps. I use unique powder. And I put a heavy spring in it also

boy i sure dont know about this one.  seems MIGHTY  hot for a 40 sw, and especially scarey because you got the recipe off of the net.  i would err on the side of caution here and back off some.  but that is me.  i want that kind of velocity with 180 grain bullets, but i am going the route of the 10mm to get it.

I run my 180 xtps with 11.0 grains of blue dot, that gives me about 1250 fps out of my G20 10mm. 1115 might be a tad to hot for stock G22.

I would go with what these guys say. They seem to have a lot More savvy than ether of us.I learned a LONG time ago that just because it shoots,it doesn't mean its safe.Back off a little and save that beautiful gun, and your body parts.pan.

I also own a 10 mm  Glock 20. I just thought It was interesting To see what The G22 could do . You know I start reloading but When  my loads start to show danger signs I back off even using STEVES LOADS. Each gun  can handle different
amounts of powder and none of these showed any pressure signs in my Glock.

The Speer factory Gold Dot and Lawman should be running at about 1025 with the 180 grain bullet. If you want more velocity than that drop down to the 165 or move up to a 10MM. Buffalo Bore loads a hot 180 grain TMJ load and I think they do have some restrictions noted on their web site about using it in an unsupported chamber. I think a 180 at about 1000 will do about any thing that the 40 S&W is designed to do.

I also own a G20. I was just loading The 40 to the max and using Steves loads as a reference. I  Know it isn't safe to use these loads all the time even tho I'm using a heavy spring.

I was checking out several reloading manuals and comparing 40S&W with 45ACP and both had comparable velocities between 180gr (40S&W) and 230gr (45ACP) @ 950fps +/- 100fps. Both were NOT designed to be speed demons, just good defensive cartridges.

Just something for you to think about!!
