What have you taken with your 35 Remington ???
« on: June 28, 2004, 07:07:35 PM »
What have you taken with your 35 Remington ? I have a Marlin 336CS in 35 Remington. I think I'm gonna put a Leupold Compact 2-7x28mm scope mounted with Talley's "Light Weight Aluminum ring/mounts (rings mount to the reciever). I haven't taken anything with it yet. I was just wondering what you guys and/or gals have taken, be it deer, black bear, wild boar or what ever? I use mine for white-tail deer hunting. Its my deep woods/brush gun.
I use Remington 200 gr. Core-Lokt factory ammo. Has anyone used this ammo? What kind of performance have you gotten? Can you get any more performance out of it by hand loading? What do you think of the 35 Remington over all?

.35 Rem

I have taken 3 michigan whitetails with My marlin 336cs .35 Rem.  A doe and a nice 8 point fell to handloaded 180 grain speer bullets. At 40 and 85 yards respectively.  The 8 point dropped in its tracks i broke the left shoulder and the bullet deflected and went all the way up to the base of his head breaking his neck. Needless to say he was stone dead.  The doe was a nice double lung shot and she ran about 30 yards and died.
The third deer was felled using 200 grain Remington core lokt handloads.  These are near maximum charges and are very powerful. Shot her at about 15 yards a she was coming down the hill in front of me.  Shot her right in the spine.  The 200 grain core lokt is a GREAT deer bullet, i plan to use the same gun and load for black bear this fall.  The gun wears a 3x Leupold m8 scope.

the only 35Rem I have is in my Super 16 Contender, but with the factory ammo since I got this barrell late last year, is aone raccoon, and one nice Mouflon sheep which was pictured on the Exotics forum for a while.  Hopefully will take whitetail with it in the upcoming season.

I have taken a number of Wisc. Whitetails and a nice 225lb buck with my 336 .35 Rem.  I use handloads that I have worked up.  I use 180gr. speer FP. I have a Weaver 1:3 power mounted on it.  I put 5 rounds at  100 yrds. with a 1" group. I am very happy w/my .35 Rem.  I think that hand loading does help.  I own 2 .35 Rem..  I don't remember the powder charge as I'm a work :(  but if your interested I'll get it for ya.

I've only had my 336 for a few months, but got it to start deer hunting, and will hopefully bag a Missouri whitetail this fall.  I'm still in the process of developing a handload it likes, I have high hopes for a stiff charge of Varget and a Speer 180 or the Rem 200 Core-Lokt.  My rifle shoots the factory 200 into an inch if I do my part, but likes the 150-grain load a lot less.  Everyone I've talked to about the 336 has said it either likes the 150 OR the 200, never both, it always prefers one or the other.

My hunting buddy has used his 35 Rem 336 to bag a whitetail every year for the last 12 or so, he has absolute faith in the caliber as long as ranges aren't past 200 yards.

What I'd really love to shoot is a big ugly pig!   Barbecued Pork for all!

One Rocky Mountain 3 point bull elk, numerous mulies and blacktail deer, coyotes, sheep killing domestic dogs, feral goats, and one Hereford/Angus cross range bull, plus other assorted varmints.  Mostly with factory Remington 200 gr. Core-Locts.  My brother shot several red foxes and one blacktail buck with Remington 150 gr. factory loads.
Happy Trails!

I shot a female wild hog with my contender in 35 Rem at about 150 yards, broadside with a 250 gr lead flat nose.  Went about fifty yards before going down for good but did the trick.  She was about 175 lbs.

:D  Hello New York Hunter... I have taken about five deer up to 160 lbs with .35 Remington and used factory and reloads. I have clocked the 200g Rem Corelock and find it hard to equal factory speed with reloads but I come close.. My hunt buddy loads a 180 Win XTP Hollowpoint and last year he got lucky and popped a big doe and a 170 lb 8 point within 15 minutes.. I like the round immensely and it kills way better than the ballistics indicate.  No deer I have shot with it went two feet. Most flopped over and all four feet flew up.. I even shoot it in a Contender 14 inch and 24 inch carbine in addition to my 1966 Marlin 336.. We call it the "Smack Down Round" cbagman

the last grizzley shot in montana with hunting licence was with a 30-30. the guy had to crawl on his hands and kees into the brush to shoot it in his sleep..he emptied the gun on it and it died where it laid if i remembver right. it was in the paper here in helena montana  years ago..  he either was very brave or very stupid.. probably the last legal griz taken in the lower 48.. i was told today the 30 30 and rem 35 were very similar.. i cant help but think that the 200 grain bullet would be a little deadlier..  ..   dave..

in the mid 1970's I remember seeing a newspaper article on an old timer who shot an interior Alaska grizzly with his marlin 35 rem.  A friend of mine knew the shooter and said that was the only gun the guy used for moose, caribou etc. Those interior grizzlies aren't real big but plenty tough.  It wasn't a charge situation, I believe the old timer saw the bear either real early in spring or late fall and stalked the bear.  Just remember there was snow in the photo.
