Takedown Procedure For Marlin 336 Needed
« on: August 10, 2004, 02:06:18 AM »
Waiting for a manual from Marlin for my newly acquired 336.  Would like to get into the workings of the rifle.  Anyone know of a good site for me to get into this enjoyable task of cleaning my new gun?   DG

For most cleanings I just open the lever and run a bore snake through a couple of times.

The Marlin lever action is easy to disassemble!
1. Open the action, leave the lever straight down!
2. Remove the hinge screw that the lever pivots on!
3. Pull the lever straight down and out!
4. Watch out for the cartridge ejector! (It just sits inside, on the left and is held in place by the bolt!)
5. Pull the bolt straight out through the back!

SUGGESTION: Leave the rifle laying on it's left side during disassembly!  This way, the ejector will most likely stay right where it's supposed to be and you can see it for reassembly!

Thanks guys.  That was the information I wanted.  Got the gun from a fellow who owed me a few bucks.  We settled by my getting this firearm.  Not a scratch or blue fade anywhere.  I don't think this gun has ever been fired.  Serial # 2509XXX so I'm thinking manufactured in 1975?  There is a scant amount of surface rust on the bolt and working the lever does take too much effort.  I have noticed that the sights aren't perpendicular to the receiver.  I'd say about 3 to 4 degrees left of center.  My guess is that's the way the thing came from the factory?
