Beeman R9 or RWS 34

I am thinking of getting one of these in a .177.  I am leaning pretty hard toward the R9 but wanted some other input about the RWS.  Further, does anyone know if the BSA Air Rifle scopes will actually stand up to the recoil of a springer?

Easy...R-9.  RWS 34 has no buttplate, just wood on the butt end.  That's cheesy.  There is really no reason to pick a 34 over an R-9 except for price.

I've used all the BSA airgun specific scopes.  They're pretty good.  I've returned a few of the 2-7s but they were replaced.  I've had no provlems with the 4X or the 3-12.  Personally I'd rather have the Banner 4-12AO.

Will the Banner 4-12 hold up to the recoil of the R9?  I've heard conflicting accounts.  What's your experience been?

Jackal,

The R9 is a much better rifle than the M34 and the price shows it.  As far as the BSA scopes go my son in-law to be has one of their 3-12x air rifle rated scopes on his RWS 350M .22, one of the more powerful break barrel springers out there, and it is showing to be of good value.  Clear, sharp and the focus adjusts down to less than 20 feet.  I have a BSA 3-12x on my truck rifle, a Tech Force 99M .22 an under barrel springer, and it is holding up to everything I have given it and hasn't changed POI.  One of the men working for me has one on his RWS M52(one of the most notorious air rifles when it comes to busting up top quality scopes) and he hasn't had any problems with his BSA scope either.  BSA scopes may have been junk in the past but they are showing to be of much better quality now.  I would not discount them.  Lawdog

It has for me.  Also, this is the scope Beeman sells with their R-9 "Goldfinger" combo guns.  I don't think there would be any problem.

I can't disagree that the R9 is a fine air rifle; but, I'm very pleased with my RWS Mdl. 34 in .22. I got a Gamo as my first air rifle ( not knowing any better). Then a guy recommended the RWS. The fit, finish, etc. is so far superior to the Gamo it isn't even a contest.

:D Fellows Im thinking about buying an R9 myself,it must be one fine AR,as you seldom find a used one forsale,unless you Guys know of more Classified places to look for one,I guess as some one of you said the Goldfinger seems to be a Fair deal!

 I will listen to any Comments! Tarheel in N C of course!!

You are right about not finding many used ones in racks.  When you do check them over very carefully as most times they are fairly well worn out.  I found a great Beeman R-10(in excellent condition(almost new), came with all original paperwork and box) on and estate sale on Ebay 6 weeks ago.  It was hidden in the airsoft section(where you find all pellet guns and pellets).  Have fun looking.  Lawdog

Thanks lawdog,yes I have to come up with something to reduce the Gray Squirrel population around here,thier eating my neighbors apples right,very soon they will start on my tomatoes!

 I dont see any air guns that I think will do the Job for me like the R9,so I guess its deciding who to buy from,I have several Scopes,so I dont need a Combo Deal!

Tarheel,

I realize that you most likely have many scopes(like most of us do) BUT are they springer air rifle rated?  If not an R-9 can make junk out of the best of scopes.  Make sure itÂ’s rated for air rifle usage.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

I was down in NC during the week/weekend of July 4th and it was miserable down there! Glad to hear you have a break! In all the years I lived in NC the humidity was something I don't think I ever got used to.

I have handled both the R9 and RWS34 - the 34 is an incredibly large air rifle. RWS should spend an extra few bucks and install a real butt pad - one of the cheapest touches I have ever seen is the "butt" of the 34. I own a R7 an am really pleased with it. The only reason I did not get the R9 was because the rifle sees strictly target plinking use and it easy for anyone to handle. The R7 filled my needs better.

I thought the R9 was a much better handling rifle than the 34. If I wanted a more powerful rifle I would choose a R9 over the 34 regardless of price difference.

Get the Beeman. The 34 is a good gun by all accounts, but RWS inflates their velocity claims to the point where they are just plain lies.  Weihrauch (Beeman) doesn't do that. You get what you paid for.  Even though cost may be higher.  Check out the product reviews at www.straightshooters.com They run a good site and they publish actual test results with a variety of pellets for many guns.

The Diana 34 is a good gun but the Beeman R9 is a better gun.
