Scope recommendation.

I just sold a T/C scope to a fellow forum member. It is NIB.  I did not put it on my Encore because I was not real fond of the scope.  I am looking for a scope to put on a 7mm-08, 12" barrel Encore.  I do not want to go top of the line (Leupold)  I want a variable powered (1.5X6 or equivelant) handgun scope that runs around $200, any recommendations?  It will be for whitetail deer out to 150 yards.  Are the Bushnell scopes good??

I shoot a 2-6X32 Bushnell Trophy on my .308 Encore and .223 Contender with good results.  The FOV is a bit narrow at max power, but I really like the generous fixed eye relief.  I think you can get the Trophy for about $150.

I have 2 2-6X32 Bushnell Trophy on a couple of pistols I have. They work great. Under $150.00. I had one on my 454 Casull and it worked like a charm. That same scope now sits on my 7mmBR Encore.  :D

Does everyone think that for the distance you could potentially use an encore for, that a variable power would be the best bet?  How would the bushnell do with QR rings, moving it from one barrel to another and writing down the crosshair adjustment to re zero after the change?

I have a Leupold boresighter that came with a form that has the boresight pattern on it.  They recommend after sighting in to put the boresighter back on and copy the location of the crosshairs on the form.  You can get quite close to zero after removing and replacing a scope with QR rings.  

This is one of those magnetic things and I bought it with the recommendation of a gunsmith I trust.  I have used it to mount at least 50 scopes so far and the goofy thing works.  It has always gotten the gun on paper.  I don't know how, but it does work.

I bought a Bushnell Trophy 2-6x at Midsouth a couple weeks ago for $139 and LOVE IT for the money.  Bright, constant Eye relief across variable range, been shooting it on both my 10" .44 MAG and .22LR barrels (Maxima QD rings).  I've always been resistent to Bushnell and gone the Leupold route, but I have no regrets thus far and would buy another one in a heartbeat.  Can just imagine how sweet the 'Elite' series must be....

Spencer.. The Bushnell variables have constant eye relief across the variable range but the field of view narrows as you go up.. Burris scopes are the opposite and keep a constant field of view but the eye relief shortens as magnification increases which is not a problem as the shooter is using a good solid rest at the longer ranges and the gun is closer.. I prefer Burris but they cost a little more... Most of mine are 2x7 power but I also like 3x9 and rarely go past 6 power on either.. Either brand would serve you well.. cbagman :-)

CBAGMAN, that's the clearest discription I've seen, wish I'd seen it 3 months ago. My arms are longer than most guys so I have trouble getting the eye relief I'd like. I'm using all my variable scopes at 2 - 2.5 power to get the largest FOV. Leupold and Burris are very close however the burris has an edge in price, and in full daylight. The NC Star's FOV isn't as large or as crisp as the other's but for a $50.00 scope it's better than you'd guess. I'd rate the Simmons VX at the bottom of the heap.
 And yes I'm using the Leupold 2.5 - 8 x 32 , great scope, warranty, price.
