Author Topic: Fair price on a 336 in 35 Rem? (Read 822 times)

My local gun shop has a 336 in 35 Rem with rear peer sight for $225. Think $200 is fair for all? The Blue Book has the price for a 90% gun at about $176 and I think the gun is about that or a bit better. Stock is plain Jane and a bit worn, bluing is worn as well.

This would be my first 35 Rem, I would use it to hunt hogs at 50 yards or less, any suggestions on factory ammo, as I do not reload.

New ones go for @ $350 here. I got a 1966 one which was near mint and 7 boxes of factory ammo and bad foggy scope (Redfield) which I sent off for a rebuild. I paid $350..That was a premium price.. If this one is scuffed up bad I would offer $190 or $200 with tax.. Shoot 200 Grain Remington Corelock factory ammo.. :-) cbagman

I got mine practically unused for $225, but only because they didn't know what a great caliber it was, they essentially apologised because it wasn't a thutty-thutty. It shoots one-inch groups with 200 Core-Lokt factory ammo, and one hole-groups at 50 yards with pistol-bullet handloads. Nope, it's not for sale. Not ever!

Thanks to both for your advice. I offered and got $200, and they cleaned it again prior to me walking out the door with it. Did not have the Rem 200 gr in stock so I got the Federal 200. The rifle also has a Williams Peep on the rear.

Prepare to fall in love, Dude. These rifles have a strange power over their owners, often making them forget they have other rifles in the locker. As for hunting porkers at 50 yards, I envy you, as there are none close to me, and I'd LOVE to shoot one with my 35 Rem. A whole winter's worth of steaks, chops and sausage! Mmmm-Mmmmm Goood!

If you reload and want inexpensive practice don't overlook using light loads and .357 pistol bullets.

:-D Far Out!!! That load is great as well. . You may want to reload and they shoot a 170G silhoutte bullet(flat nose) real well and a 180G win XTP bullet too.. Factory ammo is @ $15 per box and I reload for about 30 cents a round for hunting loads and less for busticating loads ( milk jugs full of water)...
