Marlin Spikehorn
« on: August 13, 2004, 01:09:12 AM »
Anyone own a 30-30 Marlin Spikehorn?  I shouldered one at the store the other day, the short stock did not seem to be too big of an issue for me.  I was thinking of putting a scout type scope mount on it and a extended eye relief scope.  A friend of mine took an older Marlin 30-30 and did this, and was very pleased with the results.  Open sight quickness, but scope quality accuracy.  I have no specific use for the gun except to keep in my truck and pick up when tramping around our lease, seems handy and light to me.  I have a Marlin 20 inch 44 magnum with a leupold 1.5 x 5 scope on it (varix1?), and an old Marlin take down 22 lever action, so I guess I need a 30-30!!!  I have one complaint the lever throw on the longer cartridges is naturally longer.  However I understand you can buy a bigger lever loop from Brownells, which I may do.  Sorry for the rambling post, let me know if you have one of these and how they shoot..... I've got a Spikehorn ,and I've shot alot of SKS's & AK so the shorter stock don't bother me any ( and it seems a good length with a coat on),but I really like that Spikehorn.
