holister for scoped G2
« on: August 25, 2004, 05:25:21 PM »
I will be heading into the woods this fall sporting my new scoped 14" 7-30 G2.  I need to purchase a holister to carry the gun while I am walking and driving an ATV a few miles.  I have seem the Uncle Mikes and TC offerings but I am looking for feedback on this and other options.

The Uncle Mikes bandolier works well for me 8) ---I have two sizes---one works for scoped revolvers and 10 inch scoped contenders and the other works for  scoped Encores and G2's with longer barrels. I like to be able to move the gun from weak side to my back by just sliding the rig over---easier to climb into a tree stand or make way through thick brush without snagging on anything. The flap will cover and protect gun and scope from rain or falling debris in the brush. You can wash the mud off if necessary and set them in the sun to dry----ain't cordura nylon great?   And they don't cost that much. I use both black and camo versions---One drawback to any covered holster is that the snap or velcro makes noise when you open the flap or retaining strap----so open it before you get ready to shoot or you may scare a deer away!  :(  pg

While the cordura rigs are definitely serviceable, practical, and inexpensive...

If your looking for something with a little more 'character' check this out:

I've got a cordura rig as previously mentioned and it gets the job done.  I've also got a bandito belt and I use it with a 'Hunter' brand leather scoped 10" Contender holster for my G2.  The holster is of quality but is a little too tight for the scope and rings on my 10" G2 so I'm gonna call the bandito folks up here pretty soon and see about getting a holster from them to match the belt.

Good luck.

I use the condura holster and like it ok, but it's noisy in the brush.  You have to be careful if you're trying to sneak up on something.

I do not like holsters for a 14 inch  T/C,  they are just to heavy.

I got a nice soft side case that holds a 14 or 16 inch barreled T/C and use it when I am on an ATV or driving in the truck, some People even use the case as an holster with a nylon strap hooked to it. I tried this but it doesn't fit my hunting style very well. so when I am on the hunt I will have the T/C in my hand ready to go and when I am walking I use a sling I made.
The sling is long enough to be comfy when walking  and keeps the gun handy if a should should present it's self

:D  :D Hello Drop The Hammer.. I had a 12 inch too tight Bandito rig and holster and called the pistol packaging folks.. I sent them jpegs of my beavertail fore end andd also said it was two short for my 14 inchers.. They said send it to us.. They added two inches and a bigger strip of leather down the seam.. No charge!! It fits the beavertail and the Herrett fore end.. They worked a similar bit of magic on a convertable holster for my Smith Classic.. I recommend them to one and all...   cbagman
