Has anyone used / seen any of the the 20gr hmr loads  Either the cci dimpled or hornady xtp. I know there are places taking orders but has anyone actually used them.

I have both the CCI Gamepoint and the Hornady XTP, they look identical except for the headstamp. There are some shooters at RFC that have done terminal tests with them and they look to be a great improvement for penetration and not blowing up like the Vmax and TNT to a lesser degree. Compared to the Vmax, shot from ~10', the 20gr penetrates almost twice as far in ballistic gelatin and expands to a nice mushroom shape.
They shoot a bit lower than the 17gr and in some guns, just as accurate. IIRC, velocity is ~2450fps in actual use.

You don't happen to know of a mail order source for that ammo.  Keeping in mind one complication, alot won't ship to Canada anymore.

I do know of several online sources but none that I am aware of ship international. Due to Canadian laws, I believe you need an import or export license to get ammo from the US. Since it's rimfire ammo, I would post a question on RFC the ammunition forums for info from other Canadian shooters, there are quite a few there.  Sorry I can't be of any more help. Fred M on the NEF centerfire forum here, is Canadian,  you might post there also to for his advise.   Tim

I have the Hornady. Will be shooting it in my Ruger 77-17 most likely next week. Our blueberry season is ending this weekend. Seems like the customers think it has already ended.    As soon as that is behind me I plan to do a bunch of shooting. Well that is when I'm not painting the barn.

I tried the Hornady XTP 20 grainers in my 917. They were accurate in my gun. The point of impact was about 1 1/16" to the five Oclock position of the Hornady 17 gr. ballistic tip load. All shots @ 100 yards.

On the weekend I finally got my 17v out of lay away and took it for a test drive.  I put a 6 - 24x on it.  I only shot 10 rounds through it at the range (I then moved testing to a PD field close by) but the one group I had shot was pushing .5"(federal v-max)  needless to say I was impressed.  I was also impress with it effectiveness on gophers.  I was windy so connecting pass 100 yards was difficult it was made even harder since I could not event see dust kick up.

Now I am hoping that the 20 gr load are tough enough for close range coyotes, the previously posted gel tests indicate that is possible.  I am thinking the it could be very useful for hunting in more populated areas where the 243 would be too loud.  But I will only do it with the tougher bullet, one that will penetrate the scull or put a hole though both lungs even if it hits a rib(I don't know if the 20 gr loads are up to it).  But first the rounds need to get into the country and hopefully that happens before November.

One on my local gun shops(wholsale Sports, Calgary for us Canucks) has just gotten some of the Hornady XTP's in. I'll give them a try in the next couple of weeks to test accuracy. The painful part is waiting till november (no point shooting a yote till th fur is prime).  If anyone has some hunting experience with these tougher(relatively) bullets please pass it on.
