TC Renegade at the range

Picked up a used TC 50 cal Renegade and today was my first chance to shoot it.  Want to use this as a round ball gun and was pleased to find that both 50 and 70 gr of 3F shot to the same point at 40 yds.  Three shot groups at 40 yds ran 1 to 1.5".  Used both cast and Hornady round balls with a 0.010 patch.  Looks like I'll be happy with this gun.

Sounds like you've got yourself a shooter...I use the Hawken models, both are excellent

My son and I have been shooting T/C Renegades for about 15 years now. His is a 50 and mine a 54. Both have "made meat" and have proven both accurate and reliable. I'm sure you will enjoy yours. I am also glad to see that T/C has brought back the Renegade. "Back by Popular Demand?" 8)

Gregory, I am going to try mine with round balls also. I shot some of the sabots  :eek:  out of it and it did well, but I want to use the round balls and black powder for this years deer muzzleloader season. I hope my T/C Renegade shoots that well.  :D

I wish you the best of luck this season.  It does sound like you have one of those T/C's that shoots as good as it looks.  Remember that velocities change with the temperature, and check your sights when the snow flies.  Once again, best of luck.

Gregory   Have been shooting a 50 Renegade built from a kit in 1989 and love it.  Mine also likes 70 grains of RS Pyro and .018 ticking under the Hornady ball.  2" groups at 75 yds with peepsite.  For deer, the  385 gr Buffalo bullet really knocks the crap out of them when fired over 90 grs of RS.  Just as accurate as the ball and chronos just under 1500 fps.  Don't  believe the crapola sometimes put out by the purists that 1 in 48 twist isn't any good.  Mine does what TC claims in spades.  The kit I bought had sapwood along the comb of the stock.  I just asked TC and they sent me a beautiful replacment.  Good luck!!!!

I'll keep that in mind.  We have a January deer season that used to be handguns only here in Illinois, but this year Shotgun, Muzzleloader, or Handguns are legal.  Might try the Renegade in the winter.

What's the best route to go on getting some patches for a 54 Renegade I have? I've been cutting them out of old military cotton cleaning patches for RB and they've worked pretty good so far. I'd like to get a better patch material if I could find it.

Anybody have a suggestion in regards to what they use?

I use TC's .018" prelubed pillow ticking in all my rifles, including .54cal TC Hawken with Hornady or Speer .530's, and they work perfectly
