Condor O/U fore end coming loose
« on: August 20, 2004, 02:21:42 AM »
I have a new Condor O/U in 28" for waterfowl. Got a good deal, $299 at our local Dick's. Anyways, I have been preparing for the upcoming goose season by shooting some trap and noticed that after a few shots the fore end is becoming loose. It has even fallen off once during a round of trap! Yesterday I noticed that after a few shots the release lever seems to be opening up, if I squeeze the fore end to the barrel it tightens back up for the next few shots, but then I have to squeeze it tight again a few minutes later. I have taken it all apart and cleaned it very well. Everything seems to be fine including the release spring and latch on the barrel that the forearm attachs to. I am thinking that the when the barrel heats up after firing several rounds it is expanding an causing the forend to come loose.  Any ideas of how to solve this??

What type of foreend latch does it have, pushbutton, lever or snap action?  Sounds as if the spring that powers the mechanism is too weak.  The barrel shouldn't heat enough to push the takedown latch open.  Perhaps if we know what type latch we can make more suggestions.

Sorry, its the push botton type.  It looks like a dial that you "roll" which releases the latch.  I inspected the spring and it looks fine and the fore end does not come loose until the gun has been fired several times in a row (like shooting trap).  I have cracked open the action over and over when it was unfired and the fore end never loosened.  When used for trap I can see the release "lever/dial" getting pushed open and I have to squeeze the fore end back onto the barrel to tighten it.
