How do you carry your tree-stand?
« on: October 16, 2004, 04:45:02 PM »
I've never hunted from a tree-stand before, but I'm thinking about buying one. I was wondering if you kind folks could offer me some advice/suggestions on the simplest and most comfortable way to carry these things? I'm thinking some sort of strap/backpack sorta' system, but need some suggestions.

Thanks a bunch :D

Most all climbing treestands come with a set of straps to carry it backpack style to your tree. For the most part it seems to work pretty well. Some are abomiable to carry but most aren't bad. Before you plunk down your money make darn sure you see how it looks folded ready to carry and how the straps work. That will help you sort out the good, bad and the ugly.

I have a climbing stand that I use sometimes.  It came with backpack type straps and I have found that the easiest way to carry it is with both of the straps on one shoulder and the stand kind of to my side.  If I carry it on my back the stand tends to hit me in the back of the legs.

I used a ladder stand a while back in which the ladder came apart in three sections and then there was a separate seat.  To carry it I had to stack the three ladder sections on top of one another and tie them together.  You could then carry the ladder on one shoulder and the seat in the other hand.

Currently I do most of my hunting out of stands that are set in a permanent position.  I guess it just depends where you hunt and what you like.

I had a Loc On strap on.  It was noisy so made a polar fleece carrying bag.  A simple strap allowed me to carry it over my back in complete silence.

My ladder stand has back-pack straps.

The climbers also have back-pack straps.
