Colt revolvers and movies
« on: August 18, 2004, 07:18:39 AM »
Hey guys,

This might sound stupid, but I'm the type of a guy who watches a movie and looks closely at the guns.  I will say "I have one of those" to myself when I see most movies.  Short of Charles Bronson's Wildey or Quigley's .45-120 Sharps, I have just about all of them covered, -all but one, and a real common one, as well.

I watch a movie like Catch Me if You Can, LA Confidential, or (the original) Dragnet and I see Colt 38 snubnosed revolvers.  I believe these to be a Colt Agent, and I've found one for sale in my area.

Am I drooling over the right movie gun??
Just my Awf Hand comments...

snub nosed movie guns

Could be a S&W.  Assuming it is a Colt, the Detective, Cobra, and Agent were look-a-likes, essentially the same gun except the detective was all steel, the Cobra had an aluminum frame, and the Agent had an aluminum frame and cylinder.  Viewed in hand the finish is not identical on the three as the aluminum is painted rather than blued, but at the distance you see them in the movies you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  There were also some larger Colt snub nosed revolvers.
