Anyone else use a 16 ga?

While I dearly love my little BSS 20 ga, I like to drag out the old Stevens 16 on occasion.  It smokes and boom's pretty good.  
Does anyone make decent components for reloading this old sweetie?
Shame skeet shooters don't include it, then there would be plenty of good low brass hulls made for shucking.

:D Howdy ,
Chech out Ballistic Products and Precision Reloading . They both have componets for the 16 ga . You can also get card and fiber wads from Circle Fly . I*ve got an old Husky in 16 ga that I shoot once in a while . Its not very fast cause it a under lever and is a hammer gun . Lots of style points anyway . :wink:

Hey Butler,
To add to what you were saying, the family has an old 16 gauge that would be perfect for CAS but trying to find components has kept us using the 12 ga.  I'm getting too lazy to do a lot of digging for supplies. :grin:
Noticed that Guns & Ammo's gun of the year was a 16 ga shotgun.  Maybe things will change.

I really believe that the 16 ga. is coming back in style, for years you'd have to lood hard just to find shells, now even Wal Mart has them.
They really are a good choice for CAS, weight of a 12, loads a lot like 20's so the recoil is next to nil.

Funny story about a 16 ga.  Saw one at the range (USPSA) we use.  Had been sitting back in a corner for about 6 months.  Got to thinking it would make a great CAS shotgun.  So asked to check it out.  Was a great looking gun--only problem was it was so loose that it almost fell in two.  I would be afraid to use it as a wall-hanger.  Hated to see a good looker in such poor shape.  Gun is still at the range :cry:

There is a mule ear sxs 16 ga fluid steel from late 1800's in New in Box condition the next town over.  I stop about once amonth to see if the owner is ready to price it to me, been checking monthly for about 3 years now, it's gotten to be a joke, every time I see the man, he says "No" before hello.  Beautiful gun!

That's all I have. I shoot a 16ga Winchester 97 and a Winchester 24 in 16 ga. I'm in the market for another Winchester 97 in 16ga, sure makes for faster loading at the match, I can hold 4 shells in one hand vs 2 of the 12ga.  Found an older Texan reloader and have been saving my hulls for some time now. I'd like to find a set of dies for my 12 ga Texan MII reloader. If anyone knows were I can find the parts or manual, that would be great.

I've been pretty much exclusive 16ga shooter since about '82.  My main arm is a nice Light Weight Field grade Elsie I rescued from a barn wall and had rebuilt; heap big medicine for grouse 'n cock.  I also traded a very nice 12ga 3200 Rem for a new in box 16 Citori Lightning -- maybe I did take a horrendous financial beating in that trade, but functionally it is one of the sweetest trades I ever did make.  I gave that to my teenage son for his grouse 'n cock gunning (but I hunted with it for several seasons myownself).  Last Christmas I gave him a very nice Win '97 in 16ga and I believe we are gonna have Coyote Cap work it over for CAS use.

I've never had problems getting top notch components for the 16.  I'm gonna miss those Activ hulls, but Cheddite and Fiocchi are readily available and all types of wads and such are available too.  I stay with 1oz shot and Unique or IMR 7625 powder and get great performance.
