OLD TIME BEAR BAITING TACTICS
« on: August 16, 2004, 01:12:51 PM »
Bear Baiting is a growing issue in many places, and to add a little to the pot, I'll offer this hint for those who might find it interesting.   I enjoy reading OLD books and articles from the 1800s.   In one such book "Wild Beasts And Their Ways....." Chapter 10 -  by Sir Samuel White Baker (Born 1821 ~Died 1893) he describes a hunting expedition in the American Rockies with some commercial skin hunters.   Their favorite method to bait GRIZZ, was to shoot a deer and leave it overnight.   Next day, they sneak back in to the spot where the deer was left and see if there's a GRIZZ layin' on top or nearby...
Baker's books are FREE and you can download them on this link:

This guy hunted just about every animal that walked the Earth, and had the most respect for BEARS - both American and Asian.   I recommend his FREE books if you have time to read very much...

BTW, TEDDY Roosevelt wrote about hunting Grizz, too!

GOOD LUCK!   [/url]

Most Grizzlies are killed here off gut piles.  When we kill a Moose or Caribou, we watch the gut pile for a few days.  If there is a Griz in the area he will find it and lay claim to it.  If there is no griz in the area Black Bears will sometimes feed from it, as will wolves, and foxes.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
