Air gun Silo
« on: October 13, 2004, 10:29:51 AM »
Okay I know this is the rifle silo page and therefore apologize for putting on a pistol question in advance to all the purists out there.

I have heard rumours that the South African metallic Silhouette Association (SAMSA) is considering starting an Air Pistol event.

I have so much fun with the Air rifle event that air pistol may just be worthwhile.

Considering that I have to start thinking seriously pretty soon what Christmas present I am going to get myself, do any of you guys shoot air pistol silo and what air pistol would be worthwhile?

From what I understand the air pistol is shot up to a distance of 18 yards in the standing position only.

Hi Theuns

This would be the 3rd organization that I am aware of that will be sanctioning air pistol silhouette.  I started the AIR pistol division for the IHMSA but have since left that association.  You are correct on the distance, 10, 12.5, 15 and 18 yards for both the NRA and IHMSA versions on 1/10th scale targets.  The IHMSA was the first under my leadership to offer both freestyle and standing entries.  The NRA followed suit a year later.  As for guns anything from a Crosman or a Daisy on up to the Olympic Steyrs, Hammerli's etc get the job done.

It is a fun game and since you are shooting AR you already have the targets ;~)
