Welcome to GBO, Riverhunter!  I also frequent the Marlin forum from time to time, but hang out here more.  Apparently the fora are habit-forming, I used to spend all my time on Marlin Talk, when it shut down I found about six others to replace it!

I have (at the moment   ) three Marlins, 44 Mag, 35 Rem, and 357 which Mama thinks is hers.  Well, I did give it to her for Christmas, so I guess she's right, but I am still breaking it in "for her".   :)

My 35 Rem is my favorite, that 336 action is so slick it can sell used cars.  I'm still working on finding the perfect handload for it, but already stumbled on a great plinking load.....9.2 grains of Unique under a 158 grain pistol bullet, and voila!  One-hole groups at 50 yards.  YMMV, but my rifle loves 'em!

Good shooting to you, my friend.  Come on back and set a spell.

riverhunter,
Good to see you here.  I moved to Greybeard when Marlin-Talk shut down and I found that I enjoy it much more than I did Marlin-Talk.  I drop in occasionally on Marlin Owners, but always wind up back here.
I, also, have my 1895g set up with a 1.5-5X Leupold.  For me, it's the ideal combination.
Best,
TnNuc

Riverhunter, I've been unsuccessfully hunting blackie for the last couple of years.
The majority of people I speak to say that blackie meat tastes like a$$.
Would you mind sharing some tasty bear recipes with us ??
Thanks,
Ranger

hi rifleranger, the first time i shot a blackbear i made up a roast---- it didn't taste very good( i made it up in red wine sauce etc)........it was "ok" i guess but was not what i was used to!!......i had heard that if you made them into "smokies" and peperonies they would be awesome---so i sent the rest of the meat to the buctcher..........well,  ever since then, every bear i have shot( or my partner has shot), has been made into S and P!!........anybody who has tasted it has said the same thing!......."that's bear?!!!"............to me it tastes like moose/deer suasage, and yes we get 1-2 everyyear!! 8) .........larry
