25 acp Vs 209 primers

In an earlier post I used winchester 209 primers to shoot a 370 gr maxi ball over 30 yards with no troubles


What I would love to see is someone that has both the 25 acp (or 22 hornet) breach plug and a normal 209 breach plug. take the two out and load the heaviest bullet they have with no powder and with primer power alone see what propels the bullet the furthest.  

when this is done It would be interesting to see how thing worked with small pistol then small rifle and maybe then with mag primers.

I have both systems for my Omega; however based on the sound of a rifle primer vs the 209 I would doubt that a bullet would come out of the barrel with the rifle primer, it only makes a little pop noise. The 209 sounds like a hot 22. I'm not sure what this would prove. I do know that the 209 primer with 777 and a 348gr powerbelt only lets me shoot one shot without a swab between shots and the same set-up with the .25ACP and a normal rifle primer allows at least three shots without a swab between shots. I am liking the .25ACP conversion a lot!!!!

I can tell you from recent experience that if you forget to put in the powder - 6 hornet primers will not move the bullet more than a few inches down the barrel!  I finally unscrewed the breech plug and pushed the sabot out with a rod...

I was pretty sure it wouldn't make the end of the barrel. I have seen revolvers stick the bullet when someone forgot to put in the powder and only shot with the primer. My suggestion for the Hornet or .25ACP conversion as to what to call the system piece. Since it is a Primer Support piece of Brass why not refer to it as the PSB. Knight calls their equivalent a Disc maybe it might be a Bisc??? Personally I like PSB. Maybe we should start a competition for the best name. By the way I wrote to T/C and asked if they have played with the conversion. The answer was no. I suggested they might consider it and also suggested they try to get the primer manufacturers to make a 209 style primer specifically for the muzzle loaders with less energy (more like a rifle primer). So far I have not had any misfires. Maybe your spit patch was too wet???
