In Doug Murray's book "The Ninety-Nine 3ed edition, page 4-15, Quote: "Developed by the ballistician Charles Newton, and first chambered in the newly designed "250-3000 Savage Rifle" in 1914, this cartridge became the first standard factory round to exceed 3,000 feet per second velocity. Known as the .250 Savage later on, it has the longest running production record of the Savage cartridges."
