Buying Firearms on-line; my first "excitement"
« on: August 13, 2004, 03:06:02 PM »
Well, it had to happen.  Found a nice hammered SxS over on Auction Arms, and ended up winning it, and at about $30 less than I was willing to go.

I had talked to the people so I felt good.   Sent them the $$ and was waiting for the gun to arrive when I get a tracking number from them.  Gun is on its way to FFL right in good old downtown Sandy, Utah.  That's great except I live in Texas!

When you read their site they have about 406 ways to send $$ and have handling charges, no handling, no shipping, shipping but no handling, etc.

I followed as best I could and when I called them today they tell me they can't even find any record of my money order.  Plus there is a lot of hollaring in the back, back and forth.  Life is not so good right now. :?

So, being cowboy, I politely discuss it with them (my nickel, too) and after a bit we "think" the problem is solved.  They do have a record of the $$ but they lost/didn't get my FFL's paperwork so we start that process again.

Right now I'm out a phone call and about two weeks of waiting time but things seem to be getting better

And so it goes....

Howdy pard,

That's a great attitude, not sure I'd be so charitable.
If you will though, make sure you put a nuetral or negative feedback on the seller, I'd hate to go through what you are right now!

Hope it all works out..

Going to wait till I have the SxS before I do that.  Guess this is one of those "if it looks too good....." incidents.  Even at my age I'm learning.

We're waiting for the FFL to get to them.  Then it will probably take a week for them to get it ready and another for it to get here.  We'll see....

And it continues....
Got an e-mail back from my inquiry asking if it shipping.  Said a couple of days ago or could have been a week.  Gave me a tracking number.  I checked and UPS doesn't recognize it (they use UPS) and it is the same one that they sent when the gun was supposed to be off to Utah.

Sent my final one asking for a clarification and then my FFL, who is also a lawyer, will be getting into this, too.

I'll keep you posted

Just got a new tracking number and the gun was signed for by my FFL yesterday.  He only works half a Friday so we didn't connect.

Now all that has to happen is that it is the right gun.

And here is the "wonderful" people's name and address:

Gun Gallery  and sometimes The Gallery
2807 Perkiomen ave
Reading PA 19606

I'm not counting this one over till I see the shotgun.  Will make a final, I hope, post early next week.

Into each person's life a little rain mus fall but right now I'm looking for plans for an arc. :-)

till next week--

and the saga continues....

seems today, Monday is my FFL's anniversary so he's not at work.  Can't go Tuesday cause the Superintendent is coming to the school so we have to all be there with bright, shiny faces.

So Wed is the first day that works for both of us.

I'm beginning to think this was NOT meant to be

Finally, the shotgun and I have made contact.  Turns out it's from Spain but the wood looks great.  Stiff as a board but I was expecting that.  Going to do a little diving into it this week-end and start lightening up and smoothing out all the rough spots.  Get rid of that automatic safety, too.

The stock has a small crack but I knew that going in--it was in the ad.  All in all I like it.  I'll be working on it off and on and hope to have it ready to go for the Sept match.

I'll post a picture in a few days

Pard,

I'm glad you got some satisfaction.  I'll think twice before I get involved with that seller.  Thanks for the running commentary.

Yep, never going to happen again.  I think they are more unorganized than anything but that still doesn't make this a "good" transaction.
