7mm-08 powder
« on: August 27, 2004, 06:14:41 AM »
I've got a Rem. 7600 7mm-08 I'm going to reload for. I plan on using 140 gr bullets and either Varget or H4350. Any experiences would be appreciated. Dave

I load  42 grains of Varget and  140 grain Sierra gamekings in my son's A-bolt. He, his brothers, sister in law and nephews all get 3 shots touching @100 yards.

Varget, IMR4064 seem to fit the bill in the 708. Varget gives good accuracy and vel.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at 42gr of Varget with a 140gr Core-Lokt bullet or a 140gr Hornady flat base spitzer. If 4064 had the temp. tolerance of Hodgdon's extruded powders it may well be the better choice. Now that Hodgdon owns IMR maybe we'll see it happen.  :D

In my 15" Encore I use vvN550 with a 140BT and have had exellent results. Good accuracy and vel.(2600 fps with .75 3 shot grp @ 100)  I'm in the prossess of trying it with some 150 and 160 partitions. I could get the vel with the Varget but accuracy fell off with speed. The Varget works better in my bbl with bullets in the 115-130 range. Don't know how the N550 would work in a rifle but no reason it shouldn't. It's a bit spendy to find out if it doesn't though.
