Changing brands of primers
« on: September 13, 2004, 08:10:45 AM »
Some time ago I bought a bunch of primed and new 28 gauge Cheddite hulls.  They are about ready for the first reloading, but I cannot find Cheddite primers locally.  I understand, and always follow, the need for not changing any components in a recipe, but there must be a safe alternative.

I am loading BPI wads with 20 gr. Blue Dot pushing 3/4 oz of shot at about 1250 fps.  The little 28 really does a nice job on anything up to, and including, pheasants with this load using #6 shot.

I tried the Alliant website, but they give no data for Cheddite hulls.  BTW: these were the only brand of hulls I could find.  28 gauge stuff is hard to find and one bid on e-bay went totally wacko!

Make certain that the primers fit. I think ched makes two different diameters.
