Opinions of the Ruger Redhawk?

:D Hello there Shooters,

Well, a couple thoughts on this subject. The first directly from Dave Andrews, the editor for the Speer reloading manual a number of years back. Standing across the table from him at a gun show in Moscow, Idaho, I ask him which revolver would stand up to long term use. His answer was, buy Ruger as the other makes used in Speer's testing
needed to be returned to the factory for service while the Rugers seldom needed such service. I bought a Security Six that day an it is still going strong.

As to the       29 S&W, it was pretty well said by S&W in their own early ads for the 29 CLASSIC.  In their ads it was stated that with the 29 CLASSIC, they (S&W) had now built a       29 made for "sustained" use of heavy .44mag. ammo.  That pretty well puts it in B&W at least as far as the older 29 goes.

As for my own .44 use, I have owned 2 or 3 Black Hawks and presently own a Red Hawk. Using the heavy - 310 to 350 gr. bullets in the BH, I found that the cyl. pin wanted to move against the keeper (cross pin) until the recoil caused damage to both parts of involved. I know there are after market parts to prevent this problem, but with the Red Hawk it just takes a lick'en and keeps on tick'in.  19gr of AA#9 behind a hard cast 310gr LBT and the Ol'RH is just coast"in.

Keep em coming!

I also have the ruger redhawk with a leoupold 2x scope . I shoot nothing but reloads , some are very heavy loads for hunting and some I load with a few grains of red dot for plinking . No problems with it at all .

I like all brands of revolvers and find things I like about all of them and things I don't like about all of them. My Redhawks are as strong and tight as the day I got them and a lot of lead has gone down the tube. The more you shoot a RH the better they seem to get. Most of the RH are a little rough when they are new so just get out there and shoot them 500 rounds or so and they will smooth up like you wouldn't believe. The 357,41 &44 were perfect out of the box for function, a little stoning of the trigger surfaces produced a much better trigger --- but don't do this if you are not practiced at working on Ruger DA guns and very familiar with how the surfaces all work together. My 45 colt had small chamber mouths.449 , which I had run out to .452 and now it shoots excellent. The other 3 always shot well. You will find a RH to be like a Russian tank maybe not as pretty as some but tougher than most. You have a good gun work with loads it likes and they are usually pretty accurate and plenty tough. Guns are a little like women some are prettier than others but all of them are fun!

Well, I guess if I get another RedHawk I'll send it to Hamilton Bown for his bag of trick!

I had a.44 redhawk that was returned three times for repairs twice because it started missfiring and once because the barrel split under the frame NO charges from ruger I like the design and features of Rugers      and own quite a few but about half of them have been sent back one or more times
