Shot my new Omega this weekend
« on: August 29, 2004, 09:45:27 AM »
Went to visit my sister in Gettysburgh to help bail hay this weekend so I took my new Omega with me.  The tractor had a bad starter so I spent the two hours playing with my new toy.  I only shot about a dozen rounds as it was 95° and after the third shot I couldn't keep my hand on the barrel while shooting over a rest because of the heat.  I really like the feel of the gun and the way it shoots.  This gun just "fits and feels" right. I think it will do a lot to build my confidence this deer season.  Now I just need some cooler weather to make the final adjustments for the bullet I'll use for deer.  I shot triple7 loose powder this time but plan to switch to 2-50 grain pellets for hunting if the gun will group as good with the pellets.

why the switch to pellets?? cost twice as much, and are not all that quicker to load.
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

I already have a box of pellets.  As you say the powder is not bad to load since I would carry it in speed loaders for hunting.  Once I get a cooler day I want to find the amount of loose powder that will give me the tightest group for the bullet I'll use.

why the switch to pellets??

That is a fair question. I find that I get more velocity and a lot more consitentcy with pellets compared to loose. These are results from loads shot over a chrono. I also get a lot less build up in the barrel making easier to seat bullets #4 and beyond with out cleaning. Loose powder makes bullet seating to the same depth near impossible with my Omegas (3) and Encores (2).  Everybody has different experiences.
