difference in recievers ??
« on: September 06, 2004, 12:25:34 PM »
I have been looking at ordering a new barrel for my 22Hornet NEF.I'm, not sure at the moment which caliber, but I have noticed on NEF's website they say to call about certain rounds before you send in your reciver. Mine is a SB-2 reciever that came factory with a 22hornet barrel. Is it good enough for any of the barrels, or is there a difference? I'll be calling them, but I always forget until they are closed, as I am usually at work.

Thanks,
George

If you do a search on this site, you can find a customer service e-mail address. No need to call during working hours.   Good luck!

I believe this forum's FAQ has the date codes in it.
In short, the 2nd letter of the serial number is the date code, and it must be N=1999 or later to qualify for a high pressure rifle barrel. They will put a 223 or rimmed cartridge barrel on any rifle frame, but the 30-06 diameter rimless cartridges are only for the 1999 and later frames.

Thanks Mitch. that was what I aws wondering about. I bought mine enw in 2002 and the delaer had to order it in, so I'm guessing it is a preally good chance that it is newer than 1999 considering the popularity of the 22 hornte in these guns I doubt it sat on a shelf for 3 years before I bought it.

Thanks,
George
