Are the muzzle brakes on the Yugo SKS with threaded barrels welded, brazed or soldered on? What is the best way to remove the muzzle brake without damage to the barrel? Thank you, smg.

Thats not a muzzle brake its a gernade launcher unless your talking about the ones made legal to sell in the Republic of Kalifornia? They were remachined gernade launchers into muzzle brakes to sell in kalifornia.

The Yugo SKS that I am talking about is for California. The muzzle brake appears to be either welded, brazed or soldered onto the threaded barrel.

smg: I think that if this is a kalifornika rifle you are stuck with that muzzle brake/grenade launcher. Possibly a gunsmith or machinist can tell you if it is welded or soldered and if it can be removed without damaging or overheating the bore. HTH. Mikey.

I could be cut off flush and the barrel recrowned ok because the barrel isn't chromelined so no seperation of the chrome can happen. Which i would never attempt to cut a chromelined barrel. I could be done by a gumsmith. BigBill

Someone mentioned it was a re-made grenade launcher? If it's put back on the same way, you just remove the pin, then it twists off. I took one of the grenade launchers off before. It wasn't easy, had to use a vice, but at least I didn't need to heat it. - Joe
